Grateful to have wrapped up an incredible experience at IROS 2024 in Abu Dhabi! ?? During the conference, Chinmay Samak and I delivered a presentation on how F1Tenth Foundation and AutoDRIVE Ecosystem can come together to promote reproducibility and benchmarking in robotics research through competitions and digital twinning. Here's a glimpse of what we presented: ?? Presented an overview of F1TENTH and AutoDRIVE Ecosystem and highlighted their individual as well as combined capabilities. Stressed on the open-source nature, and availability of benchmarks, standards, scaffolded experiments, curated datasets, research and education material, software development kits, simulation tools, hardware testbeds, global competitions, detailed documentation and an international community – all ready to support #reproducibility and #benchmarking in robotics research. ?? Discussed the digital twinning of F1TENTH racecars and racetracks using AutoDRIVE Ecosystem, thereby bridging the gap between simulation and reality from both the ends (#real2sim and #sim2real). Described the F1TENTH Sim Racing framework developed using AutoDRIVE Ecosystem, highlighting how we leveraged the best practices like distributed computing, headless and graphical rendering paradigms, and Docker, Inc containerization for dependency management and workload isolation to yield reliable software reproducibility. ?? Highlighted the importance of #data in reproducibility and benchmarking, and demonstrated the framework’s capability to record and replay various data streams in a time-synchronized fashion along with the ability to automate data analysis and decision making. Presented in-depth analysis of race metrics (lap count and time, collision count, total and adjusted race time, best lap time, etc.) and vehicle KPIs (pose, twist, acceleration, wheel displacement, actuator feedbacks, LIDAR pointcloud, FPV camera frame, etc.) using Foxglove. But the adventure didn't quite end there! Chinmay Samak and I also had the incredible opportunity to serve as the race stewards and co-organize the 21st F1TENTH Autonomous Grand Prix. The event was a thrilling success where innovation and competition collided to push the boundaries of autonomous racing! ?? A heartfelt expression of gratitude to our advisor, Dr. Venkat N. Krovi for his continued support. We are truly grateful for the chance to be a part of such a dynamic community. We had the chance to connect with some of the greatest minds in the field from academia as well as industry, discuss our research and potential engagements. Yet another successful deployment of the ??1?????????? ???????????????????? ???????????? ?????????????????????? @ ?????????2024! ?? ???????? ???????????????? took the gold by staying on the top of the leaderboard throughout the time-trials and the head-to-head races, maintaining flawless runs with zero collisions and setting the fastest lap of the competition well under 7 seconds. ?? ???????????????? ???????????????? secured the silver, demonstrating consistent aggressive performance despite encountering a terrible crash while practicing, which messed up their vehicle’s wheel alignment. During one of the practice sessions, the team pushed their vehicle so much that it resulted in an untipped rollover! ?? ???????????????? claimed the bronze, exhibiting crazy accelerations over the straight and controlled oversteering in the corners. They demonstrated some of the most exciting overtakes while competing for the third position. ?? ?????????? claimed the special award for being the best first-timer, managing to complete multiple laps despite facing communication issues. ?? A special mention to the ???? ??1?????????? ???????? for their dedication and perseverance. As one of the first teams from the UAE, they stood their ground against some highly experienced teams despite having less than 2 months of preparation. Results for the 1???? ??1?????????? ?????? ???????????? ???????????? @ ?????????2024 are out, and here are the top 3 teams: ?? ?????????????????? took the gold with an impressive race time of 141.59 seconds, maintaining a flawless run with zero collisions and setting the fastest lap of the competition at 13.90 seconds. ?? ????????_?????? secured the silver, completing the race in 186.58 seconds. Their consistent performance also saw zero collisions, with a best lap time of 17.79 seconds. ?? ???? ??1?????????? claimed the bronze, finishing the race in 244.88 seconds. They also performed consistently without any collisions and put up a best lap time of 24.12 seconds. ?? A special mention to the Shoubra Racing Team for their dedication and perseverance. They claimed third place during the qualification round and missed out on finishing in the top 3 during the final race only because of the strict collision penalty, despite putting up a better time. I'm excited to announce that as a proud member of the Shoubra Racing Team, we secured 4th place in the F1Tenth Foundation (Formula1Tenth) competition at IROS 2024, competing against 57 international teams! ?? Not only that, but we also achieved 3rd place in the qualification round in our very first participation! ?? This is a tremendous milestone for our team, and I'm incredibly proud of what we’ve accomplished. This journey has been a transformative learning experience, teaching me so much about analyzing, tuning, and optimizing algorithms for high-performance autonomous systems on the track. From perfecting control strategies to fine-tuning perception algorithms, it’s been a challenge I’ve relished at every step. ?? We used the AutoDRIVE Ecosystem simulator, developed by the Autoware Foundation, to rigorously test and refine our algorithms. This experience has been truly invaluable, igniting my passion for diving deeper into autonomous systems. I’m inspired to continue exploring autonomous stacks and make them more robust and adaptive for future challenges. ?? Looking ahead, I am more motivated than ever to expand my skills in the autonomous field and participate in even more competitions, driving innovation and performance in this exciting area. In less than a year, We have gone from local competitions to competing on a global stage and we couldn't be more proud!???? I’m excited to share that we (Shoubra Racing Team) finished 3rd?? in the qualification round and 4th ???? in the final race at the F1Tenth (F1Tenth Foundation) competition during IROS 2024, going up against 58 teams from around the world. This was our first international competition, and we relied on the AutoDRIVE Ecosystem simulator to test and refine our algorithms. This journey has been a huge learning experience. In a short time, I’ve gained valuable skills in both perception and control systems, learning to adapt, fine-tune, and overcome challenges on the track. I’m eager to keep growing, diving deeper into more complex algorithms and pushing the boundaries of what i can achieve. Special thanks to our advisors, Ebrahim Abdelghafar and Ziad Osama, for their guidance and support throughout the process. My recent work in the F1TENTH Sim Racing League IROS 2024. (Team: Log Robotics) I developed an autonomous algorithm for the competition that guides the simulated F1TENTH race car around the track. Using a simple wall-following algorithm, I successfully qualified in Phase 1 of the qualification round. While the algorithm works, I’m working to improve its performance for the next iteration of the competition. We are not only competing locally; we are now competing on a global scale! PROUD to announce that as a member of Shoubra Racing Team , we secured 4th place in the F1Tenth Foundation (Formula1Tenth) at IROS 2024 sim league competing against 57 global teams !! and finished 3rd in the qualification round as well, in our very first participation! ???? This is an incredible achievement for us! This journey has taught me so much about analyzing, tuning, and modifying algorithms to best fit specific tasks on the track. From fine-tuning control strategies to optimizing perception algorithms, I learned how to adapt and enhance the system for better performance in various scenarios. We used the AutoDRIVE Ecosystem simulator to test our algorithms, and it was an incredible experience. (Autoware Foundation ) Looking ahead, I’m excited to dive deeper into advanced SLAM, planning algorithms and obtaining race lines to push the boundaries of what autonomous systems can achieve, making the system more robust and adaptive. ??
