???? Energy demand for building cooling is both a contributor to and a byproduct of rising global temperatures. One alternative is natural cooling, where buoyant forces drive air through a building when temps outdoors are cooler than inside. In this talk, #CatherineGorle and #NicholasBachand of Stanford University present their latest research which aims to numerically quantify the surrounding urban canopy's effect on interior airflow with several building interiors. ?? ?? Why is it so important for #STEM-focused companies to invest in students? Our Director of Research Program Management Jennifer E. Fox, Ph.D. explored this crucial question on the #SXSW panel "From Daunting to Doable: How to Empower the Next Generation." Jen shared Autodesk as an example of partnering with educational institutions to ensure a resilient workforce. "This is a 40-year old company that puts a high priority on providing free software to students and educators," she said. "We even have Technology Centers were students, start-ups, and entrepreneurs can use the space, talk with engineers, and give feedback on what works." ?? ?? How can biomaterials - often more sustainable materials that interact with biological systems - be applied to architectural industries like #AECO and other sectors? The Pioneering Biomaterials Symposium, hosted by California College of the Arts & Autodesk Research, sought to highlight the importance of biomaterials, delving into the necessity and impact of material innovation. In hands-on biomaterials workshops, participants were able to gain practical skills and insights into the latest techniques and methodologies. Additionally, panelists from academia and industry explored the role of biomaterials in sustainable development and strategies to foster cross-sector collaboration. Did you know we host academic innovators in our data-enabled workshops to prototype their ideas? Pictured here, Christopher A. Battaglia and #JasonLogan of the University of Houston joined us for an intensive, six-week design sprint last fall. The team had the opportunity to develop and fabricate #timber joineries using robotic technology at the Boston Technology Center, and receive critical feedback from Autodesk researchers, and residents. As part of the Autodesk Research #ResidencyProgram we work directly with innovators from industry, academic, and entrepreneurial sectors collaborate to design, make, and de-risk the future together. Here at Autodesk Research we’re making major advancements to transform building deconstruction through AI and sensing technologies. Key findings from our initial experiments include: ??? 95% accuracy in metal stud detection ?? 88% accuracy in damage detection ?? Potential to save 0.45kg CO2 per square foot through material reuse Our proposed methodology combines thermal imaging, RGB cameras, and machine learning to enable automated assessment of reusable building materials. Early-stage results demonstrate promising pathways for reducing construction waste and enabling circular material flows. ?? That's a wrap! Autodesk was so grateful to participate in the MIT AI Film Hack, where filmmakers tried out animation prototypes from our #ProjectReframe and Wonder Dynamics teams to complement their film submissions. Both technologies implement motion capture in an accessible way to lower the barrier to entry for creating animations. Autodesk Movement Award - for use of Project Reframe ?? Winner = Machine Learning ?? Runner-Up = Dressage: Marching Through Memories Autodesk Creative Integration Award - for use of Wonder Studio ?? Winner = O.R.V.8 - Oscillating Rhythmic Vinyl ?? Runner-Up = Clown ?? Congratulations to the MIT AI Filmmaking Hackathon winners and all participants! It was a pleasure for the Autodesk Research and #WonderStudio teams to support new media approaches with workshops, demos, panels, and hackathon support throughout the event.
