ASFI is proud to share the release of the Australian Sustainable Finance Action Plan 2025-27, outlining 26 priority actions needed over the next three years to support our financial system to manage systemic risk over the short and long term and capitalise on opportunities that will set Australia up for long-term economic prosperity. The Action Plan focuses on key priorities to support outcomes that: - Reduce emissions - Build climate resilience - Protect and restore nature - Enable First Nations economic self-determination - Support financial inclusion and community resilience. The Action Plan builds on ASFI’s Australian Sustainable Finance Roadmap (2020) and reflects the evolving policy, regulatory, and market landscape both globally and here in Australia. Developed with broad stakeholder input, including from our colleagues Australian Council of Superannuation Investors Investor Group on Climate Change (IGCC) Principles for Responsible Investment Responsible Investment Association Australasia (RIAA), it needs to be delivered collectively by Australia’s financial system participants. 关于我们
The Australian Sustainable Finance Institute (ASFI) is committed to realigning the finance sector to create a sustainable and resilient financial system by directing capital to support greater social, environmental and economic outcomes consistent with the Australian Sustainable Finance Roadmap. Our vision: Australia has a financial system - That is sustainable, resilient and stable and can withstand systemic risks and other shocks and strains - Meets the present and long-term needs of all Australians, the environment and the economy - Where financial decisions are informed by and consider sustainability risks, impacts and opportunities - That enhances financial inclusion, wellbeing and informed choice - Where capital flows support Australia to meet sustainable development goals, including facilitating an orderly transition to a net-zero, resource efficient and socially inclusive economy Our mission: To realign the Australian financial services system so that more money flows to activities that will create a sustainable, resilient and inclusive Australia. We do this by coordinating, facilitating and driving implementation of the Australian Sustainable Finance Roadmap.

After two years of action-packed announcements on sustainable finance, the Albanese Government's 2025-26 federal budget is bound to disappoint the sustainable finance community. Overall, it is a restrained work with few surprises. The largest investments were made in infrastructure projects, including previously announced commitments under the Future Made in Australia agenda for green aluminium and bailing out the Whyalla steelworks. Measures to further the sustainable finance and broader sustainability agendas are largely absent. This includes no new spending for Australia’s efforts to host the UN COP31 climate conference in 2026 – an expensive task. The government has bet on cost of living measures and budget restraint as an election winning strategy, and will punt important decisions about Australia’s climate transition to the other side of what it hopes will be an election victory. ASFI’s Nicole Yazbek-Martin joined a fantastic panel discussion this week with Katharine Tapley (ANZ Institutional and ASFI Board), Sarah Barker (Pollination Law), Chris Pyke (GRESB), and expertly moderated by Jorge Chapa. The conversation explored key trends and the continued growth of sustainable finance to transform both the built environment and the broader economy. A clear message emerged: the fundamentals and market drivers for sustainable finance remain strong and are becoming even more entrenched. Australia is in a prime position to capitalise on this momentum and use sustainable finance to drive investment in transition opportunities. A big thank you to Green Building Council of Australia for hosting this timely and insightful discussion. #SustainableFinance #Climate #Sustainability #Finance #BuiltEnvironment #NetZero

ASFI CEO Kristy Graham chaired an excellent panel on blended finance at the Climate Investor Forum 2025 with leaders in the field Ian Learmonth, Christina Tonkin, Rod Bristow and Alan Schwartz AO. Together, they tackled some of the big questions: Q: What is the secret to scaling blended finance? ? Get in early, exit once markets are established. ? Keep the approach conventional—but innovate where needed. ? Partner effectively with commercial players and intermediaries. ? Share learnings proactively to accelerate market-wide learnings. Q: How do you get the risk appetite right as a public or philanthropic funder? ? Take risks, but don’t lose amount of money that might threaten licence to operate. ? Educate stakeholders on why risk (and sometimes failure) is necessary. ? Provide assurance in how risks are managed. At ASFI, we’re proud to support the blended finance ecosystem through our work.
