Ambassador Rudd had the privilege of presenting Christopher Gilmore and William Stow with the Conspicuous Service Cross recognising their outstanding devotion to duty. Congratulations to Christopher and William on this well-deserved honour.

Australia and the United States share a close and special friendship. It’s a bond that has strengthened across generations and across the political aisle in both countries. And it will continue to prosper in the years ahead. The Ambassador hosted the annual Friends of Australia Caucus Dinner at the Embassy and honoured the contribution of Congressman Joe Courtney to the Alliance. This Caucus of Republicans and Democrats continues to grow and deliver results for Australia and the US.

Joe Courtney has been a great friend of Australia for many years. He is the Co-Chair of the Friends of Australia Caucus and has been instrumental in building connections between our two nations. The Ambassador presented him with an Order of Australia in recognition for his advocacy and leadership.

A ceremony was held today in California to hand over 14 First Nations ancestors to start their journey home to Australia. The ancestors have been held by Fowler Museum at UCLA, Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County, Phoebe A. Hearst Museum of Anthropology and Oakland Museum of California. This repatriation brings the number of ancestors returned home from overseas collecting institutions and private holders to approximately 1,730. #Repatriation #FirstNations #Revive . . . Welcoming future leaders, policy makers and innovators! A delegation of University of Sydney students visited the Embassy as part of their US Presidential Study Tour. Their visit during the 2024 election provided a unique window into American political institutions and a firsthand look at the strong relationship between Australia and the US. AUKUS | Today, Ambassador Kennedy addressed the Submarine Institute of Australia on AUKUS. “There's been enormous progress on every single aspect of this program. The U.S. Congress passed bipartisan legislation, enabling a transfer of nuclear power submarines to Australia. Both our countries reformed our export control regimes, which nobody thought was ever going to happen, and we increased our protective security measures to enable seamless technology cooperation. From now, more than 80 percent of our defense trade is license free. The US Navy has made six submarine port visits to HMAS Stirling, culminating in the three-week maintenance period, during which more than 30 Australian sailors conducted maintenance work on the Virginia-Class submarine USS Hawaii, work that had never been done outside of the United States before, and a Royal Australian Navy Lieutenant piloted Hawaii to the harbor alongside Diamantina Pier. He’s one of six Royal Australian Navy officers to complete the U.S. Navy’s nuclear power and submarine training pipelines and serve aboard Virginia class submarines. By the end of the year, those six officers will be joined by eight enlisted Royal Australian Navy sailors who are completing their shore-based training. There are currently 78, soon to be a few more, uniformed members of the Australian Navy trained in the U.S. who will end up serving on U.S. submarines, and just last week, the first Royal Australian Navy officer graduated from our Engineering Duty Officer School in California, and another is working on Masters degrees in naval engineering and business administration as part of the AUKUS program at MIT.” Full remarks ?? bit.ly/3YREGBp
