The 3rd Infantry Division is modernizing and transforming for the future even as it rises to meet the demands of today, including to deter Russian aggression and reassure U.S. partners and allies. “While in Europe [between September 2023 and May 2024], our mission was to train alongside our allies and partners to develop a credible, interoperable force capable of countering any adversary,” Maj. Gen. Christopher Norrie, commander of the 3rd Infantry Division, said during a Sept. 20 media roundtable. “By building that strength and team cohesion with our allies and partners, we improved our own warfighting mastery to ensure that we're disciplined, resilient, lethal and ready to fight and win against global threats.” #ReadMore: https://loom.ly/tztgRYI #AUSAorg #AUSA #USArmy #globalthreats #europe #infantry

U.S. Army air ambulance crews that operated in Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War will receive the Congressional Gold Medal for their heroic, life-saving military service. Efforts to secure the medal, Congress’ highest award, were launched years ago, and they were supported by the Association of the U.S. Army. The House of Representatives passed the legislation in September after it had been passed by the Senate in May. President Joe Biden signed it into law on Sept. 26. #ReadMore: https://loom.ly/Fai-jr0 #AUSAorg #AUSA #USArmy #congress #goldmedal #vietnamwar

Military caregivers need more tailored support that reflects their needs, according to a new Rand Corp. report. “We call [caregivers] hidden heroes,” Rajeev Ramchand, co-director of the Rand Epstein Family Veterans Policy Research Institute, said during the Elizabeth Dole Foundation’s National Convening on Military Caregiving on Sept. 24. “We call them this because we truly believe that they're really the backbone of our national security, but oftentimes their service is hidden, unrecognized and undervalued.” #ReadMore: https://loom.ly/mnTIcto #AUSAorg #AUSA #USArmy #militarycaregiver #mentalillness #report #caregivers

The character of war is rapidly evolving, and soldiers need to keep pace, US Army Vice Chief of Staff Gen. James Mingus said. “Between fully autonomous robots, artificial intelligence [and] machine learning, … all this stuff is coming in … beyond anything that we've ever imagined, and it just keeps getting bigger and bigger every day,” he said. As technology evolves, he said, “China has it, Russia has it [and] Iran has it. Most of the modern militaries around the world have that stuff right now, and we've got to figure it out much quicker than our adversary does.” #ReadMore: https://loom.ly/e5dVxNA #AUSAorg #AUSA #USArmy #fundamentals #china #russia

Army leaders must master the basics to effectively lead the service’s transformation and preparation for the future fight, said Gen. Gary Brito, commanding general of US Army TRADOC. “It all boils down to [our ability to] overmatch … the enemy … and being damn good at your basic blocking and tackling,” Brito said during the 2024 Maneuver Warfighter Conference at Fort Moore, Georgia. “We need to train the most lethal warfighting soldiers and develop competent leaders. … That’s the core mission.” #ReadMore: https://loom.ly/KoErjFc #AUSAorg #AUSA #USArmy #cohesiveteam #futurefight #leader

Bolstered by sweeping changes to how it recruits, markets and harnesses innovation, US Army officials announced that the service has met its fiscal year 2024 recruiting goal. Having struggled to meet its recruiting goals for the past three years due to the COVID-19 pandemic, market competition and a shrinking pool of people willing or able to serve, the Army projects it will exceed its goal of 55,000 new soldiers by at least 300 by Sept. 30, the last day of the fiscal year, Maj. Gen. Johnny Davis, commanding general of U.S. Army Recruiting Command (USAREC), said in a Sept. 26 phone call with reporters. The Army also will have some 11,000 new recruits in the delayed entry program, Davis said, giving “our Army and our recruiters nice breathing room and a head start as we enter fiscal year ‘25.” #ReadMore: https://loom.ly/pB7lkvA #AUSAorg #AUSA #USArmy #BeAllYouCanBe #recruiting #soldiers #armyrecruiting
