One year ago today, on the somber anniversary of the 9/11 tragedy, Aurumys opened its doors. While the priority today is and always will be to remember those who lost their lives in the attacks and the thousands of servicemen and women who lost their lives in the ensuing wars, Aurumys will also quietly celebrate the genesis of what we've built. 7 producing offices, 7 states, over a 1000 transactions, in 12 months..
Aurumys was born out of the need for an industry leader with a new model- putting employees well-being and futures first, with the belief that the rest (success, reputation and profits) will come as a direct result.
Our industry has long been plagued with this 'wolf of wallstreet-ish' mentality. 'Partying hard and working harder' has been, and still is the mantra of many organizations within our space. Smashing beercans on your head at corporate events for crowd effect is considered cool in that world...Social media has done a spectacular job of illustrating this image of fancy cars, making fast cash and buying bottles at the club. 'Keep them dumb and hungry' is what used to be the joke I'd hear from management in the old world. I cant lie, for a period of time I fell for that lifestyle to some degree too. No one is immune to temptation.
The thing about that is, deep down, most of us can agree that sort of culture leads to unhealthy, unhappy, broke team members with high turnover, and will ultimately only be attractive to those whose character you may not want on your front lines representing your brand.
Aurumys is pioneering the new era, with 'health and wellness' being our very first core value. The graphic below is a central illustration that we've used now in all of our quarterly company meetings this year, outlining what health and wellness really means to us.
Maximizing physical and mental wellness along with personal family and relationships are the foundations of what can help lead to a person being the best version of themselves. The financial and professional development will typically be rounded out once a person has the first 3 core foundations dialed in.
But talk is cheap- that's why we've made great efforts to walk the talk. With subsidized gym memberships for every employee and agent, a dietician (former oncologist) on retainer for team members to consult, an active effort to keep alcohol from being the centerpeice of company gatherings and celebrations...the list goes on.
I am so proud of what this group of people have accomplished and how we've been able to embrace this new era. I see happy people all around. While we are a real estate investment brokerage, its not all about real estate...its about people. And we're just getting started..."the band hasnt even started playing yet they're just tuning the guitars right now."
