This digital solution has been helping to keep key equipment running safely and efficiently.? ? ??? At Aurubis Olen, sensors monitor the condition of the cooling blocks in the melting furnace in real time. The system continuously measures temperature levels to ensure the cooling blocks don’t overheat or erode. The real-time data makes it easier for our colleagues to track the condition of these critical components.? ? ? The big advantage? Potential wear is identified early, allowing the team to replace cooling blocks before they become too worn. This preventive approach not only saves valuable time but also avoids unplanned downtime and costly production losses. From autonomous driving to material storage — LiDAR technology is making processes more accurate and reliable with millimeter-precise measurements in real time. LiDAR stands for laser imaging, detection and ranging and takes measurements using lasers. ?? At Aurubis, we’re putting this technology to use to make our processes smarter, safer, and more efficient. At our Hamburg site, LiDAR sensors are already in use to calculate material volumes in the concentrate storage hall. The result? No more time-consuming physical inventories. Our colleagues can now check stock levels conveniently from their computers, with real-time, reliable data at their fingertips. ?? Here’s how it works: LiDAR sensors emit laser beams that reflect off?the stored materials. These reflections are captured by mirrors in the sensor, which calculate distances based on the light’s time of flight and generate a so-called point cloud. This point cloud is then transformed into a precise 3D model of stock using analysis software. ?? With this technology, the sensors in the concentrate storage hall in Hamburg continuously record the volumes of stored materials, eliminating the need for physical inventories and allowing stock levels to be checked digitally at any time. So we’re optimizing both efficiency and workplace safety.
