#ICYMI. Aurora is designing a HSVTOL X-plane for a Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) program called SPRINT. https://lnkd.in/ec64Zdzy The embedded lift fan and blended-wing-body technologies we are developing for the X-plane could be scaled to future medium and heavy-lift aircraft, providing the payloads, ranges, and speeds typical of fixed-wing military transport aircraft with the advantage of true vertical takeoff and landing.

How can we help reduce the environmental impact of aircraft? https://lnkd.in/eiJuVfQt As part of NASA's Advanced Aircraft Concepts for Environmental Sustainability (AACES) 2050 program, Aurora will lead a team examining new alternative aviation fuels, propulsion systems, aerodynamic technologies, and aircraft configurations, along with other technology areas. Through this comprehensive exploration of technologies and advanced aircraft concepts, Aurora, Boeing, and university partners aim to produce an assessment that will inform future investments and designs that have the potential to reduce aviation’s environmental impact and support the industry's pursuit of net-zero greenhouse gas emissions.

This Veterans Day, we recognize the sacrifices, dedication, and resilience of our nation’s veterans, as well as the families who support them. Today we are featuring Adam Selmon, U.S. Air Force veteran and manufacturing training and development project manager at Aurora. “I love working for Aurora because of the people,” said Adam. “It’s so rewarding being able to work with world-class talent and provide educational and training opportunities to help our employees reach the next level in their development. There’s no better feeling than seeing individuals reach their full potential.” Adam has a bachelor’s degree in management from American Military University and is currently working on his master’s in management and organizational leadership. Adam served 12 years in the U.S. Air Force as an aircraft armament systems technician and weapons safety manager, specializing in weapons system maintenance and weapons loading/training on the F-15E, F-16, and F-35 airframes. At Aurora, he leads training & development initiatives for our manufacturing team providing classroom and hands-on training, partnering with universities on workforce development, and promoting effective and efficient manufacturing processes through training events. He also also manages Aurora’s DoD SkillBridge program and supports our veteran employee engagement group as the vice president and co-chair. “I love all of the support and inclusion that Aurora’s chapter of the Boeing Veteran Engagement Team (BVET) provides our veterans. In the military, there is a sense of comradery with those you serve with. BVET provides that same sense of family for all veterans on the Aurora team.”

"The sense of camaraderie at Aurora is incredible. We're driven by a shared commitment to advance the future of flight, and everyone is genuinely excited about our work and supportive of one another, whether we're troubleshooting a design or celebrating a flight milestone," said Anthony Prete, a structures design engineer at Aurora. "This sense of community extends outside of the office through things like our employee-led drone team and informal get-togethers that allow us to connect, collaborate, and learn from each other in new ways." Tony has been with Aurora for 8 years and has held a variety of engineering roles in aircraft testing, structures design, and manufacturing support. Tony received his Bachelor of Science in Aerospace, Aeronautical, and Astronautical Engineering from University of Maryland and has completed several professional certifications through the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Tony is also a founding member of the employee-led drone team at our Virginia facility. The team combines engineering expertise with fun, allowing employees to enhance their drone-flying skills and test custom modifications. The team also shares their passion with the community, hosting events where local students learn the fundamentals of flight and get hands-on experience flying drones. #culture #aerospace #engineering

#DYK Our twin-engine Theseus robotic aircraft flew for the first time on May 24, 1996. The aircraft was a larger, more powerful derivative of Perseus B designed to carry a heavy payload of scientific equipment into the upper stratosphere for NASA. Theseus was the first Aurora aircraft with a fully composite fuselage. Learn more about our history here: https://lnkd.in/eAZkCxE9 #innovation #flight #autonomy
