Say hello to Katie Krejsa, joining Aurora as a Forest Climate Manager! ?? In her day-to-day, Katie will be helping to develop and implement strategies for forest climate adaptation and resilience. She will also be working with some of Aurora's partners on wildlife, biodiversity, and habitat-related projects. Coming from Anew Climate where she worked as a Forest Carbon Analyst, Katie's passion for American forestland runs deep: she is a certified Wilderness First Responder and formerly worked as a Naturalist Guide at Yellowstone National Park. We're so glad to have Katie on our team!

?? Understanding Climate-Smart Forestry: Natural Stand Regeneration ?? Natural stand regeneration refers to the natural new tree growth occurring in the forest through seeds, sprouts, and root suckers. As these new saplings mature, they pull down carbon from the atmosphere to fuel their growth. At Aurora, allowing our forests to regenerate naturally is key to our conservation and climate-smart forestry practices. Natural stand regeneration helps: ? Enhance biodiversity through the creation of complex ecosystems and habitats ? Improve soil health by protecting against erosion and cycling nutrients to keep soil fertile ? Boost resilience and adapt to changing conditions, allowing diverse species to respond naturally to external impacts Paired with hands-on management strategies where needed, natural stand regeneration is one way Aurora ensures our forests will thrive for generations to come.

Happy #InternationalForestsDay! ?????? Conserving existing forests is key in the fight against climate change. At Aurora, we're not just forest owners, we're stewards of the land. Across our 1.7 million acres, we're restoring each forest's health with custom management strategies - improving watersheds, protecting wildlife, and making forests and entire regions more resilient. Bats are essential to our ecosystems, providing insect control (saving the agriculture industry an estimated $4 billion a year!), fertilizing cave ecosystems, and more. But bats are threatened: in New York, an invasive fungus causes a deadly disease that's led to more than a 90% decline in little brown bats across the state. Thankfully, research just completed on Aurora's forestland in New York State is showing encouraging progress: the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation and LandVest found 267 bats—a significant increase from just 71 in years past—offering hope for recovery! When you purchase Aurora carbon credits, you're not only helping conserve American forestland, but protecting these lands and the species that inhabit them for years to come.

What is a "nature footprint", and how can organizations lessen theirs? Similar to a carbon footprint, a nature footprint refers to an organization's environmental impact more broadly, from land use to pollution and beyond. Carbon credits offer organizations an immediate way to take responsibility for their environmental impact. When you purchase Aurora's carbon credits, you know you're helping conserve American forestland, improve biodiversity, protect critical species, and much more. Check out this article from World Economic Forum to learn more about nature footprints and the importance of understanding (and reducing) your organization's impact: https://heyor.ca/tU6JVr

Deer play an integral role in shaping the forest. They help disperse seeds, control plant growth and more. But when deer populations grow too high or become unhealthy, the impact can be devastating. As a top participant in Louisiana’s Deer Management Assistance Program, we’ve enrolled 60,000+ acres to support responsible deer population management. In collaboration with the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, the data collected on our land helps improve deer population health and disease control across the state - just one example of how Aurora's forests are making a meaningful impact well beyond our property lines.

At Aurora, four principles guide everything we do: from climate-smart forestry practices to our research partnerships with universities, local government agencies, nonprofits, and more. 1?? Transparency: our buyers, local communities, and stakeholders have visibility into what we do and how we do it. 2?? Climate Impact: through decarbonization, biodiversity conservation, and more, helping combat the global climate crisis is fundamental to our mission. 3?? Ecological Function: to keep our forests healthy and resilient, our work restores and enhances ecological function. 4?? Adaptive Management: the climate is changing, and the impact of these changes are dynamic - making adaptability key to any good sustainability effort.
