?? Understanding Climate-Smart Forestry: Selective Harvesting Selective harvesting involves removing individual trees or small groups of trees rather than clear-cutting an entire area. This method helps maintain forest productivity and health, while also creating a forest with both diverse tree species and ages. ?? Remember: a diverse forest is a healthy forest! This harvesting approach is highly technical and requires a skilled timber workforce. At each property, Aurora works with local experts to create forest management plans that are tailored to the individual forest. By leveraging their specialized knowledge of local forests and ecosystems, we make sure each and every forest is getting the unique care it deserves. https://lnkd.in/grWxt_yf

A lot goes into managing forests for carbon sequestration. From carbon inventory plotting to tree measurements and ecosystem management (and much more!), we believe in keeping our strategies transparent to help set the standard for highly reliable, durable, and quality carbon credits. Since 2002, the U.S. has lost over six million acres of forest to land use changes. U.S. forests store nearly 60 billion tons of carbon—10 times our yearly carbon footprint. Our work at Aurora is focused on protecting these vital carbon sinks and ensuring they thrive for generations to come. Forests are more than just trees—they’re vital ecosystems that support life on Earth. Our work at Aurora is about preserving these ecosystems through responsible management and conservation. From the bottomland hardwoods of the Atchafalaya Basin to the northern hardwoods in Michigan's UP, we protect over 700,000 acres of land critical to biodiversity. Aurora's Kanawha River property is as biodiverse as it is beautiful. Located in the highly biodiverse area of Southern Appalachia, this forest is considered to have a high conservation value and is home to a wide array of species that drive biodiversity in the region, including 33 species of conservation interest as well as four species of protected freshwater mussels. Protecting and improving biodiversity isn't just a co-benefit of our work - it contributes to forest health and resilience, and is a key indicator of environmental health. At Aurora, we know successful and effective forest management should enhance biodiversity and habitat health. This week, we're excited to host a community event on Nov. 15 at our Big Poplar forest in West Virgina in partnership with the Forest Stewards Guild and Landmark Forestry. The educational tour will share best practices for bird-friendly forestry for both natural resource professionals and private landowners. In the years ahead, investments in nature-based solutions will be ever more important as we face the increasing effects of climate change. By providing high-integrity, high-quality carbon credits to organizations working to reduce their own emissions, we're committed to protecting American forestland and biodiversity for generations to come.

Anew Climate Environmental Products President, Joshua Strauss, shares his perspective on climate action following the election outcome:
We now know the result of the 2024 presidential election. While we cannot be sure of the precise climate policy direction the new administration will take, we can be certain that doubling down on our own efforts to advance the voluntary carbon market (VCM) will be essential for bending the cost curve for climate mitigation. Here at Anew Climate, the high-quality carbon reduction and removal credits we develop are powerful tools in combating the warming of our planet and averting the most pernicious effects of climate change. We also understand that there has never been a more urgent time to engage in the VCM to mitigate environmental catastrophe. We stand alongside our partners as we work together to scale up the VCM, and we encourage others considering VCM participation as part of their climate strategy to take action today. The climate clock is ticking, and now, more than ever, we need to set aside our differences and band together to address the defining challenge of our time.

?? Understanding Climate-Smart Forestry: Forest Thinning Thinning is a forest management practice that involves selectively removing certain trees to improve the overall health and resilience of the forest. While thinning temporarily reduces the amount of carbon stored on-site due to tree removal, it has major benefits, such as: ? Significantly enhancing the forest's long-term ability to cope with hotter and drier conditions ? Reducing competition for resources among remaining trees, allowing them to grow stronger and healthier ? Improving the forest's ability to withstand environmental stresses ? Creating a diverse and balanced forest structure, providing integral habitat for wildlife and improving water filtration ? Maximizing long-term carbon sequestration and storage Learn more about Aurora's approach to forest management: https://heyor.ca/IBWBMe
