Auriga Space Partners with Purdue University We’re happy to announce our research partnership with Purdue University to advance the development of our hypersonic electromagnetic accelerator.?This collaboration combines Auriga's innovative technology with Purdue's world-class expertise in aerospace and hypersonic research. Working alongside Dr Joe Jewell and his team at Purdue, this partnership focuses on designing advanced instrumentation for our electromagnetic accelerator. Our joint efforts will generate crucial aerodynamic and aerothermal data for various leading-edge geometries, supported by comprehensive analytical and numerical solutions. “Purdue’s cutting-edge testing and expertise will help us validate and refine our technology, driving us closer to our goal of high cadence, low cost electromagnetic launch for hypersonic testing and space access.” - Patrick Carlson, Head of Mechanical Engineering at Auriga Space. "We're pleased to work on advancing hypersonic research by investigating the aerothermodynamics of the Auriga projectile by building and instrumenting a model suitable for testing in the Boeing/AFOSR Mach 6 Quiet Tunnel (BAM6QT). Auriga's sponsorship of this work will give our students an exciting opportunity to apply their expertise in aerodynamics and instrumentation development in the wind tunnel and beyond."?- Dr Joe Jewell, Associate Professor of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Purdue University

Deep Tech Field Notes: Winnie Lai // CEO & Founder of Auriga Space // Blueprint for Building Hard Tech Companies Her methodical approach to managing risk reminded me of the late Charlie Munger's wisdom: "All I want to know is where I'm going to die, so I'll never go there." For Winnie, this translates into weekly leadership meetings that always start with "what could kill our company?" One of the most compelling insights: "The engineer inside me always loves to overengineer, but as an entrepreneur, I need to understand ROI. We're breaking down our electromagnetic launch system into three phases - Prometheus, Thor, and Zeus - each generating revenue while advancing our technology." This journey from scaling fintech to revolutionizing space access highlights a bigger story: ?? Hard tech success requires business model innovation, not just technical breakthroughs ??? LA has become the epicenter of aerospace innovation - with Space Force, defense partners, and machine shops all within reach ?? Revenue can't wait for orbit - Auriga's proving it by monetizing their tech for hypersonic testing first ?? The next wave of space companies will be built by founders who master both physics and practical execution Read the full interview here: https://lnkd.in/gjrkdfgF Owen Fileti SoCal Deep Tech Rahul Singh Joshua Peng Emily Gold

Breaking into specialized industries often means going beyond the norm. For Ryan Brody, that meant completing a PhD at University of Pittsburgh Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and working on groundbreaking projects like REE alternatives for electric vehicles. Today, he’s an electromagnetic design engineer for Auriga Space in California, using his expertise to revolutionize sustainable satellite launching systems. ?? https://lnkd.in/gD4BjiCE

Check out our article in the Space Force Association's Fall 2024 magazine (page 25-26)! Auriga is developing a linear electromagnetic space launch system capable of rapidly and responsively reconstituting lost or damaged satellites. Due to the inherent complexity of chemically-powered rockets, the United States lacks an effective counter to growing Chinese and Russian anti-satellite capabilities. With Auriga's electromagnetic launch approach, the DoD will have access to a responsive and all-weather capability for increasing orbital resiliency. Auriga Space, a California-based startup working on kinetic space launch, was awarded a $1.25 million Direct-to-Phase II AFWERX contract to support the development of a new hypersonic lab accelerator named Prometheus and slated to be operational next year. Auriga’s eventual goal is to provide rapid launch capabilities using tech more akin to high speed maglev trains than rocket engines. In the near term, the Prometheus test facility will provide low-cost hypersonic testing for government and commercial clients.
