Get engaged in historical and social research in developing architecture with an attention to materiality. Our current projects include a residential sports academy outside of Mumbai for marginalized children for a California NGO, a humanist factory for an event production company in Kolkata, health center and school for a tribal community in Sundarbans, a 150-year-old haveli restoration and a boutique hotel in Shekhawati, Rajasthan, a community center in brass celebrating the metalcraft of Moradabad, cottages with a meditation hall in Junga in the lower Himalayas. Our past projects with the World Bank include an artisan workshop village and a marketplace in Agra, adaptive reuse of a Kenzo Tange pavilion into a pilgrim cafe in Lumbini, and a heritage masterplan, streetscape, and marketplace in Sarnath.

AUR has been busy with several significant projects over the last year. We are designing a heritage hotel in Ramgarh Shekhawati, a region in Rajasthan with historic urban settlements known for its richly painted frescoes. The facade is carved in limestone with a rhythmic repetition of brackets found in the town and the region. With an interior finished in beige lime plaster, there is a dialogue in materiality between the interior and the exterior. Lime plaster when dried, chemically becomes limestone. The hotel exposes the neighbouring haveli's high walls creating shaded courts in a hot desert climate.
