WHY IS CONVERSION A MEASURABLE SUCCESS? Behind a real story ? Indonesia has an annual economic growth rate of around 5%, making it one of the fastest growing regions in the world. A relatively large proportion of investment therefore flows into the country's infrastructure projects, among other things. Cement is the core product of these infrastructure projects. Alongside Java, Sumatra is one of the regions with the highest demand for cement. Instead of new construction and high investments, many cement plant operators are opting for cost-efficient modernisation and the associated increase in output within the existing infrastructure. At a cement plant in the south of the country, the operator decided to convert one of the two identical bucket elevators in order to generate more output and reduce energy consumption. The customer decided in favour of a plant conversion by AUMUND: The friction lining, the steel cable belt, the profiled rubber strips, and the clamping connection were replaced. The conversion of the third-party bucket elevator with a centre distance of 71.5 metres was upgraded within less than a week. The measurements in the following days confirmed the success of the conversion measures: a 15% reduction in energy consumption compared to the competitor's machine and a 5% increase in conveying capacity. That was 400 tonnes more output per day thanks to the renewed bucket elevator. COMMISSIONING OF 10 BELT BUCKET ELEVATORS FOR MINERAL EXTRACTION In January 2025 several belt bucket elevators were ready for commissioning on the west coast of Norway. The Norwegian mining company uses AUMUND bucket elevators type BWG 250/220 with a capacity of 21 t/h and a centre distance of 25 m to transport the bulk material. All machines have already been installed and the Field Service team carried out the routine inspection of the equipment prior to commissioning. During the on-site assignment, the commissioning order for the Field Service Team was extended from the original four to a total of ten AUMUND bucket elevators. However, the time window for the work remained at five days.? All technical points relevant to the commissioning of bucket elevators, such as the alignment of the machines and conveyor belts, belt clamping connections, sensors, etc., were subjected to a thorough inspection. Furthermore, ceramic friction linings on the drive drum and geared motors with frequency devices were used in bucket elevators, considering the intended use. The commissioning, including the test runs of the ten machines, was completed successfully despite the tight timeframe. CONVERSION IN THE GYPSUM PLANT Complete assembly of the material conveyor ? Prior to the decision to modernise the material transport, the material was fed via a hopper that required constant replenishment at short intervals, resulting in increased personnel costs and recurring capacity bottlenecks. Due to its dimensions, the choice of the Samson Feeder is also an investment in the future: currently, only approximately 10-20% of the 150 t/h in conveying capacity is already utilised. The Samson Feeder is used for intermediate storage and for conveying difficult goods. In order to counteract the poor flow properties of the material and to minimise friction, the conveyor, discharge chute, and material guide of the belt conveyor were lined with a technical plastic. The task of the installation team was to integrate the compact material conveyor into the existing infrastructure. AUMUND developed a tailor-made concept for the customer to optimise the investment volume and reduce the total downtime as much as possible. This involved comparing the possible pre-assembly levels in the AUMUND workshop with the line analyses and costs on the construction site. In accordance with the analyses, the Samson Feeder was almost completely pre-assembled in the AUMUND workshop, transported to the customer by AUMUND Logistic, and installed and commissioned by AUMUND Field Service on schedule and within 9 days.
