Autonomous farming begins with collaborative Burro robots

关于我们

Our mission is to solve the crushing labor problem faced by farmers today, by making collaborative robots a reality. To do this, we are starting first with Burro. Burro is a robotic platform that follows people and can autonomously run cargo around, relieving people of strenuous tasks which add little value, so that they can focus on more valuable work.

    Farming with Collaborative Robots

Over the past month, I had the opportunity to travel to Australia with Charlie Andersen and visit Costa Well Grown farms. Dewald Van Der Merwe Continuous Improvement Manager, was an excellent host and gave us a firsthand look at how Costa is integrating Burros into their workflows. Adopting new technology is never without its challenges, but their teams have demonstrated a strong commitment to embedding automation into their operations and building a foundation for future innovation. What stood out most was their forward-thinking approach. Costa is making strategic changes that not only enhance Burro’s impact today but also establish an operational framework to support future technologies. It’s inspiring to see a company proactively shaping the future of agricultural automation. I look forward to continuing this partnership and supporting their journey toward greater efficiency and innovation. #Burro #SmartFarming #AgTech #CostaWellGrown #Australia #FromCaliforniaToAustralia #Berries #TableGrapes

Willoway Nurseries, Inc. is embracing the future with... Donkeys??? But these aren't your grandpa's donkeys! Willoway is building on their legacy of being an early adopter of innovation, and launching 6 new Burro Grandes THIS WEEK in Avon, OH. "We're excited to showcase Burro's capabilities to our employees, customers, and industry colleagues, demonstrating how thoughtful implementation of robotics can elevate the entire industry." Staying true to the spirit of Burro, they're adding Burros to improve the work lives of their team. Burros, like our donkey ancestors, are friendly, approachable, and love nothing more than lending their human friends a helping hand. As Willoway said, "By incorporating Burro into our operations, we're not replacing human workers—we're enhancing their experience. The autonomous robot takes on physically demanding and repetitive tasks, allowing our skilled team members to focus on more specialized aspects of horticulture that require human expertise and creativity." We encourage you to read the full post, and to follow along on Willoway's journey with Burro. https://lnkd.in/giU3adsf

?? We launched the Burro Grande at Cultivate‘24 in July of last year. Only 8 months later, and we’re shipping our 100th Grande!!! More importantly, they’re shipping in larger and larger batches, because customers are exceeding their utilization and ROI expectations. Grandes are setting records for hours-in-motion week over week…and we haven’t even hit peak season yet. A huge thank you to our customers who put their faith in us to be the real deal! #Burro #AgTech #FarmingAutomation #Workforce

My colleagues in the robot world know there’s plenty of negative associations with remote controls or teleoping. Way too many exaggerated autonomous robot demos over the years that were nothing more than someone hiding behind the scenes with a remote control in-hand. I get it. I can only speak for Burro, but we think there’s valid practical applications for our remote that enhance, not detract from our overall utility. Rather than hide the fact that we have a remote control, or deceptively pretend it’s operating autonomously when it’s actually being manually controlled - we embrace it! A few use cases off the top of my head that work for customers in ag, horticulture, nursery applications: -Lining up the last inch or two to easily hook a trailer -Loading trailers. Crew working at the rear of our Grande loading trailers. Trailer 1 is loaded, and they need to move forward 12-15 feet to load trailer 2. -Precision mowing. Our Grande Cortador autonomous mower/brush cutter sometimes needs to mow around creeks or irrigation ponds. Or near a wasp nest, snakes, spiders, alligators. *Burros work in some gnarly spots -Slope mowing. Cortador autonomously mows serious slopes. But the remote is helpful for particularly aggressive slopes, or inconsistent slopes with ruts, stumps, etc. -Doing donuts in the mud at trade shows ?? In this video, (the legendary) Chris Thiesen walks through all the available buttons/functions of our remote: fwd, rev, left, right, horn, lights on/off, pause/resume autonomous workflow. Talks use cases. And in the latter part of the video he demonstrates using the remote to pause an autonomous workflow, interact with the robot, then start it back on its workflow. #agtech #robotics
