There are seven whooping crane chicks, who aren't so little anymore, that are being reared at Audubon Species Survival Center! Five of these chicks are slated to go to White Lake Wetlands Conservation Area for release later this year, while the other two are more genetically valuable and will remain at Audubon Species Survival Center to become part of the breeding flock. With the support of U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, Chevron, and other generous supporters, we’re committed to the long-term growth and stability of the whooping crane population to save the species from extinction.

Meet Basil, a female green aracari chick who needed a little helping hand from her keepers. After concerns that first-time parents Olive (mom) and Sage (dad) weren't properly looking after their chick, keepers decided to intervene and hand-rear this precious youngster to ensure her survival.
