The Initiative serves as a hub to catalyze data science education and research across all Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), stewarded by the AUC-member institutions, Clark Atlanta University, Morehouse College, Morehouse School of Medicine, and Spelman College, and the AUC Robert W. Woodruff Library. Leveraging the AUC’s rich history in social justice, the Initiative works to develop promising practices that diversify the data science workforce and advance data science on topics that impact Black America.

Hello LinkedIn Family, Over the past two weeks, I had the honor of attending the Mastercard Data Science Experience partnered with the AUC Data Science Initiative, where top HBCU teams from the Mastercard Inclusive Growth Score Data Challenge were recognized! ?? Representing Spelman College as Blue Phoenix, our team, which consisted of Sage Crittenden, Simone Hammond, Chloe Jacobs, and I worked on a project focused on Bridging the Equity Gaps in counties experiencing demographic shifts. I want to give a heartfelt thank you to Irma Maria Covarrubias, our incredible mentor, for her unwavering support, guidance, and belief in us. Your mentorship has been instrumental in our success, and I’m beyond grateful for everything you’ve done to help us grow??. We were honored to receive 3rd place back in November and had the privilege of presenting at the AUC Data Science Initiative W.E.B. Du Bois Symposium with the theme "Code Your Course: HBCU Students Driving Inclusive Growth." During the event, we explored the vibrant heart of downtown Atlanta, toured the Slalom Consulting building, and learned about their impactful work. We also got a chance to see the innovative work happening at Mastercard, including a tour of their office! Being part of this challenge allowed us to not only showcase our work but also to learn from industry leaders and connect with passionate peers who are dedicated to using data science to drive inclusive growth. ???? Special thanks to Jamal Ware, Dr. Talitha Washington, Alfred Watkins, the AUC Data Science Initiative, Slalom Consulting, and Mastercard for making this experience truly memorable! #DataScience #InclusiveGrowth #HBCU #MastercardChallenge #TechForGood #Empowerment #Innovation #DiversityInTech

Jewel Burks Solomon, American Entrepreneur and Venture Capitalist | At just 27 years old, Solomon sold Partpic, a startup that makes it easier to identify industrial parts, to Amazon. This accomplishment alone would be enough to earn her a spot on this list, but this is merely the beginning of her trailblazing career. She then went on to become the first head of Google for Startups in the US where she applied her entrepreneurial success to designing and developing tools and resources to help other businesses grow.?#DataIsDope?#blackhistorymonth?
