First look at Geo Explorer Auburn, a 35-foot mobile science lab powered by solar energy that visits K-12 schools across Alabama and beyond. Our mission: We help students use scientific thinking and technologies to understand the grand challenges of Earth, Environment, and Society. We are a partnership between Auburn University Department of Geosciences, Auburn University College of Sciences and Mathematics (COSAM), Citizen Science GIS and 15 lightyears. Shares and comments welcome! We can't wait to bring science on the road across Alabama and beyond later this academic year. Share with #GeoExplorerAuburn #GeoExplorerLabs #AuburnGeosciences

Shares and comments welcome! Bama RV allowed us to have a very big Monday! We are thrilled to share our new partnership with Bama RV to bring our Geo Explorer Auburn mobile science lab to life. Our brand new 35” Class A RV will soon be transformed into the world’s largest geosciences-themed mobile lab. We are so grateful to Daryl, Allen, and the team at Bama RV for working with us to create a truly impactful partnership to benefit school children and families across Alabama and beyond as we deliver science on wheels from Auburn University Department of Geosciences and Auburn University College of Sciences and Mathematics (COSAM) to schools and community events everywhere starting this spring. This afternoon we picked up the keys from Daryl and the RV is now home at the Department of Geosciences. Stay tuned for updates coming in the next month and into January as we reveal our next big partnerships to power our state-of-the-art mobile lab. We’re going to document the entire process on social media and share with you how we’re working with so many incredible partners to build a vision for science’s future right here at Auburn. Thanks for the partnership, Bama RV. This new partnership allows us to continue to serve the land-grant mission of Auburn University in bold ways. Geo Explorer Auburn road trips beginning this spring. Where should we go first? What are you most excited about? #MobileScienceLab #GeoExplorerAuburn #GeoExplorerLabs #RV #RoadTrip #ScienceOnWheels

Yesterday we had the honor of hosting Kelsey Herndon for our Auburn University Department of Geosciences Colloquium Series. Kelsey is a Research Scientist at the University of Alabama in Huntsville, where she serves as the Associate Lead for Ecosystem and Carbon Management at the NASA-USAID SERVIR Science Coordination Office, located at the NASA Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama. And she is an Auburn University alum! She provided us with so much to think about regarding the future of remote sensing and GIS and connecting with partners across the globe. Inspiring work and inspiring leadership from Kelsey. We look forward to what comes next together. Thanks, Kelsey!

Introducing the Informal STEM Connectory (I-STEM Connectory) at Auburn University! We are fostering the formation of an exemplary and transdisciplinary STEM ecosystem that highlights Auburn University’s exceptional capacity for addressing pressing societal needs for health, food, water, infrastructure, and well-being through out-of-school K12 programs and experiences. Our goal is to create synergistic connections among people working in informal STEM Education to support Instruction, Research, and Extension by synergizing existing activities and increasing Auburn’s capacity to address state and national STEM Education needs and funding opportunities. #STEMforALL #ISTEMConnectory

Breaking news fitting for GIS Day! #GeoExplorerAuburn Mobile Lab announcement. Shares welcome using #GeoExplorerAuburn for reach. Happy #GISDay to those who celebrate! It’s appropriate on this day to share some big news for our Going Places with Geosciences vision for connecting research, education, and outreach in support of our Auburn University Department of Geosciences work and the land-grant mission of Auburn. This morning, we officially closed the contract on a new 35-foot Class A RV with our new partners at BamaRV in Opelika. This vehicle will allow us to launch the world’s largest Geosciences-focused mobile science lab. It arrives on campus next week and then we begin the interior build process with our creative team. Geo Explorer Auburn, part of the planned Geo Explorer Mobile Labs Network, will get on the road later this spring to support K-12 schools and communities all across Alabama and beyond. Geo Explorer Auburn is a 35-foot solar-powered mobile science lab that visits Alabama K-12 schools and communities to solidify a foundation in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM).?We are a partnership between Auburn University Department of Geosciences, Auburn University College of Sciences and Mathematics, and more partners to be announced very soon. If you would like to partner with us, please send us an email. Let us know what you think about this bold idea to transform science and technology across Alabama and beyond in the comments. #MobileLab #STEM #STEAM #ScienceOnWheels #GeoExplorer #AlbamaSTEM #GoingPlacesWithGeosciences Auburn University College of Sciences and Mathematics (COSAM) Auburn University Department of Geosciences

Happy GIS Day!
Mappy #GISDay! Location intelligence can help build a more equitable and just world where a person's race or ethnicity does not impact their outcomes. With ArcGIS StoryMaps, mapping and GIS can provide insight into patterns of inequality and bring communities together around a common understanding to drive change: https://bit.ly/3CyRh3E You can learn more about GIS for racial equity, get data, and see more examples of GIS advancing racial equity on the GIS for Racial Equity and Social Justice site. https://bit.ly/2Wqt8og

Tigers Babies Nursing Mothers Room Now Open in Department of Geosciences in the Coliseum The Auburn University Department of Geosciences in collaboration with the Tiger Babies program is pleased to announce the opening of a new Tiger Babies Nursing Mother’s Room in the Coliseum in Room 2100. Huge thanks to Ashleigh Rudd for leading this effort. This new room is designed to be a safe and supportive space open to all nursing mothers in Geosciences, the AU community, and official AU visitors. The Department of Geosciences is pleased to open this space (the only Tiger Babies location on this side of main campus) for working mothers to create a more welcoming and supportive environment for scientists. This is a direct response to graduate students who requested the idea to department leadership. Room Access Nursing mothers should email Ashleigh Rudd ([email protected])?and cc Kiley Coan ([email protected])?with their requested dates and times. Once the Geosciences department staff receives their email and confirms their request, the department works with the nursing mother on how to access the room, room details, etc. To ensure privacy and security, a combination lock has been installed on the door. Once the appointment is confirmed, department staff will share the combination with the nursing mother, giving them access to the space.
