关于我们
The industrial and systems engineering program at Auburn is ABET accredited and has been granting degrees since 1932. The program is ranked in the top 25 percent of all industrial engineering programs in the most recent U.S. News & World Report, and has a continued commitment to excellence. Auburn industrial and systems engineers are highly recruited by well-known companies, and are offered starting salaries comparable to other engineering disciplines. Our undergraduate curriculum provides a fundamental education that prepares students for professional practice in ISE and related fields by using: Case studies, real-world projects, and open-ended homework problems help to develop the student's engineering and design abilities, as well as thinking skills. Students participate in group activities, and exercises, as well as individual written and oral reports. Summer intern and co-op positions are available. Students work for companies such as Accenture, Southern Companies, Honda, Delta Airlines, Exxon Mobil, BMW, and Walt Disney World. The faculty is highly qualified academically and professionally, having advanced degrees from well-respected U.S. universities as well as considerable industrial and governmental experience. The percentage of female students is one of the highest of all engineering disciplines at around 35%. This creates a more accepting environment where females are among many peers instead of being a small minority. The U.S. Department of Labor projects a 10 to 20 percent increase in industrial engineering jobs over the next decade.

We are thrilled to share that Alice Smith, the ISE Joe W. Forehand Jr. distinguished professor, has been elected to the National Academy of Engineering (NAE) as part of the Class of 2025! This prestigious honor, awarded by peers, is one of the highest distinctions in the engineering profession. Smith is recognized for her groundbreaking contributions to computational intelligence in modeling and optimization of complex systems—a testament to her decades of innovative research and dedication to engineering excellence. She is the first full-time engineering faculty member at Auburn University to be inducted into the NAE, marking a historic moment for the Samuel Ginn College of Engineering and the entire Auburn Family. ?????? In reflecting on this achievement, Smith shared: "Auburn has provided a stable, supportive place where my talents and interests can intermingle and flourish. To me, it is all about stretching boundaries, developing knowledge, and sharing outcomes for the betterment of our world—one student, one project, and one article at a time." Notable voices in industry and academia, including Apple CEO Tim Cook (’82 IE), NAE Fellow Fred Glover, Auburn President Christopher B. Roberts, and Engineering Dean Mario Richard Eden, have praised Smith’s career, influence, and pioneering research. Please join us in congratulating Dr. Smith on this well-deserved honor! #Auburn #Engineering #ISE

ISE Undergraduate Student Highlight: Quin Ferrell For Richmond, Virginia, native Quin Ferrell, choosing Auburn was an easy decision. From glowing recommendations to his own campus visit, he quickly fell in love with Auburn’s welcoming atmosphere, beautiful campus, and top-tier engineering program. Originally a civil engineering major, Ferrell discovered his true passion in industrial and systems engineering (ISE) after learning about its versatility. “Industrial engineers take something and simply make it better,” he said. “That’s something I’ve always enjoyed doing.” With ISE’s strong job market and problem-solving focus, Ferrell knew it was the right fit for his future. Beyond the classroom, Ferrell is gaining valuable hands-on experience as an undergraduate research assistant in the ISE department. His work involves using 3D printing technology to test various parameters and filaments, optimizing settings to reduce time, energy and material waste — all while maintaining quality. “I’ve loved what we’ve been doing so far and have learned a whole lot about data analytics,” he said. Ferrell is also an active member of Sigma Nu, and in his free time, he enjoys golf, pickleball and fishing. This summer, he’ll take his ISE knowledge into the field with an internship at Michelin, gaining first-hand experience in manufacturing. As he moves deeper into his major-specific courses, Ferrell is more excited than ever about the opportunities ahead. “I am a naturally curious person, and ISE’s faculty and staff have done an outstanding job answering my every question," he said. "I wouldn’t trade my experience here for anything.” #Auburn #Engineering #ISE #StudentSuccess
