We are excited to announce openings in our Research Group! One qualified individual will assist or lead water quality and water resources research and technical assistance projects. Another individual will support our Research Group in planning, development, implementation, and data management for large stormwater and drinking water sampling and analysis projects (requires at least 5 years of relevant experience coordinating with environmental laboratories). Complete job descriptions in our Research Engineer Series, Research Scientist Series, and Geologist/GIS Specialist Series are at https://lnkd.in/g7z5mpvT. Applicants should apply to the listing that most closely matches their background and experience.

Graduate students Aidan Bosman, Grace Kerr, and Aline Christine Bernegossi have teamed up to work on analyzing different medias to evaluate their removal rate of total nitrogen and total phosphorus. These nutrients are known for eutrophication in our waterways that can harm aquatic plants and animals if excess amounts are present. This photo shows their column set up in the Stormwater Research Lab where they are currently working on setting infiltration rates to resemble engineered soil media for biofiltration practices. They will be spiking influent with nutrients to create a synthetic stormwater to analyze and optimize pollutant removal rates of various medias.

Amanda has been instrumental in our electrical flocculation project! ?For?this project, we are evaluating the floc generator prototype's ability to reduce turbidity; therefore, we are using a fine sediment gradation in our simulated stormwater runoff mixture. Amanda has been a huge help in prepping this soil which consists of drying, crushing, and sieving.?Amanda also helps with initiating the test, sampling, and running turbidity analysis at various settling time intervals. Thanks for all of your hard work, Amanda!

Perry's Construction Stormwater Tip #75: If you “do it right the first time”, you shouldn’t have to repair a site.?Here is one example from the 2010 Clear Water Alabama event where the project is now over 14 years old.?Riprap outlet protection was installed at the pipe outlet to dissipate the energy of the flowing water.?The eroded channel was shaped to design dimensions, covered in TRM, infilled with topsoil, and sodded.?Other than a little vegetation management needed at the riprap outlet, the site is still pristine.
