Customer- “we need 110 of these 13.5” dia parts turned” Machine Tool Manufacturer- “the largest OD you can turn with this machine is 11.75” Us- “hold our beer and watch this” ?? if there is a will, there is a way. We did have to make some custom jaws and get a little creative with the OD tools. The ID tools had to be spaced every other turret position as well. Peep that 7” ID buttress thread though ?? If you can’t buy it—-BUILD IT! We were handling heavy and large parts way too many times, but couldn’t find a trunion to suit or needs. We finally had a free day on the mill and whipped up this massive 10” x 36” base, complete with Jergens, Inc. ball locks. Meaning, we can make tons of different parts and fixtures mount on here in minutes! Also, by using Jergens, Inc. Fixture Pro on the 4th axis connection, we are able to go from 3 vises on the table to this trunnion being set up and ready to rock in about 10 minutes! No indicating, not probing workoffsets..etc. We knew the DMG MORI USA would be up for throwing some serious weight around. ??.
