These changes create NEW opportunities for secure sharing of patient information originating from Part 2 programs, while continuing to ensure strong patient privacy protections. Organizations previously hamstrung by Part 2’s unworkable consent standards and prohibition on redisclosing Part 2 information can now consider implementing the Final Rule’s new consent standards to permit more flexible data-sharing with appropriate recipients, including health information exchanges and networks (HIE/HINs)! ?
