AGA is proud to support the donation of the 150th Thomson Reuters & American Bar Association reference law library to the Books for Africa Law and Democracy Initiative. This marks AGA’s fourth library sponsorship with the organization this year. It went to the Judicial Institute for Africa (JIFA) in Cape Town, South Africa.?JIFA’s mission is to strengthen democracy and justice across Africa by providing essential training for judges and legal professionals. This library for JIFA is AGA’s fourth donation to Books for Africa in 2024, following contributions to the Lesotho Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, the Supreme Court of Malawi, and the Ghana Attorney General’s Office. In addition to library donations, AGA provides training and educational support to law enforcement, regulatory bodies, academic institutions, and business associations across nine African countries. https://lnkd.in/guQhzuSK

This Veterans’ Day, we honor the brave men and women who have served our country and recognize the unique challenges they face. We are committed to supporting our veterans as a key part of our new Mental Health Initiative, which emphasizes veterans' mental well-being. We look forward to working alongside state attorneys general to create impactful, supportive programs for veterans and promote meaningful engagement throughout our communities.

As we reflect on the bipartisan delegation to Normandy and look forward to honoring our veterans this Monday, Veterans' Day, we’re reminded of the lasting impact of unity in service to our country. Arkansas Attorney General Tim Griffin’s announcement of a new statue to honor Staff Sergeant Denver “Bull” Randleman—an Arkansas hero and D-Day paratrooper of the famed Easy Company—reflects this commitment to remembrance and respect for our shared history. The Normandy landings, like SSG Randleman’s own service, stand as a testament to the strength of collaboration in the face of adversity. Today, we continue this legacy by working across divides to confront challenges like human trafficking, cybercrime, and organized retail crime. By bringing together leaders from all backgrounds, we uphold the rule of law and protect the communities we serve. As states across the U.S. and neighboring nations move to legalize recreational marijuana, state attorneys general are at the forefront of navigating the complex legal and economic landscape of cannabis law. The implications of legalization extend across state and federal levels, requiring robust regulatory systems to protect consumers and uphold the rule of law. The AGA Cannabis Project supports state attorneys general by connecting them with experts, providing educational trainings, and hosting collaborative forums for the legal community and stakeholders. A key resource in this effort is the 2024-2025 Cannabis Law Deskbook, authored by public-sector attorneys and staff on the front lines of cannabis law and regulation. This comprehensive guide covers topics such as the history of cannabis policy reform, managing state and federal conflicts, compliance and enforcement priorities, public health perspectives, tax policy, and more. Many thanks to the Attorney General Alliance for inviting me to their Working Group Meeting in Deadwood, South Dakota. I had a blast discussing #cannabis policy with some of the brightest minds in the country spanning all parts of the industry including state AGs, state and federal regulators, and attorneys. And wow, South Dakota sure is beautiful.

My NCDOJ colleagues and I had a great time last week at the Attorney General Alliance Working Group meeting in South Dakota. Not only did we come together with justice-focused colleagues around the country to learn what others are doing in the areas of mental health, online gambling, and retail crime--we also had time to connect and network in an absolutely stunning part of the country.
