During this week’s #CrashResponderSafetyWeek and always, FHWA is committed to Vision Zero – zero deaths on the road. An important part of that commitment is funding programs and projects that promote safety under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.

It is Crash Responder Safety week, and Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) HELP Truck drivers are often the first to respond to incidents on our state’s busiest roadways to minimize traffic congestion and the risk of secondary crashes with safe, quick clearance.?Unfortunately, they frequently become the victim of a crash themselves. So far this year, 20 HELP Trucks have been hit with significant damage and five HELP Operators have been injured.?If you see them on the road, we ask that you move over and slow down.

It's Crash Responder Safety Week! From November 18-22, we honor and work to protect the first responders who risk their lives every day on our roads. Remember to slow down, move over, and stay alert to keep our crash responders safe.

On Sunday, Acting FHWA Administrator Kristin White joined over 1,000 people to commemorate the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims. It’s unacceptable that anyone should die just by choosing to walk, bike or roll -- and in the U.S. bike fatalities have increased 77% since 2010. That’s why this week we’re reminded to slow down, move over, and stay alert so we can both remember those we lost and fight to save the living. Thank you to our partners and crash responders to helping us save lives and support the hundreds of billions of investments under the #BipartisanInfrastructureLaw to advance our Vision Zero goal so that every project is a safety project and every time we go outside, we promote a culture of safety. #WDoR2024
