We’re excited to welcome Dr. Stephen Jaqua to the team at Atrium Health Levine Children’s Davidson Pediatrics! To help you get to know him better, we asked Dr. Jaqua a few fun questions. Check out his responses below and be sure to say hello at your next visit! ?? ??Why did you become a doctor? “I started in health care as an EMT, but I wanted to take a more direct role in patient care. Becoming a doctor allowed me to take that responsibility and make a bigger impact. Pediatrics drew me in because I felt a sense of fulfillment working with children, and it allows me to support not just the child, but the whole family.” ??What’s the best part about working with kids? “They’re cute, they keep you humble, and they have a unique joy that’s always ready to be discovered.” ??????How do you help children and their families? “In addition to comprehensive pediatric care, I’m passionate about promoting healthy lifestyles—more sleep, less screen time and lots of outdoor play! I also enjoy working with patients who experience headaches.” ??What are you looking forward to most in your role at Levine Children’s? “I’m excited to build long-term relationships with patients and families and becoming part of the community here.” ????What advice do you have for new patients? “To kids: Brush your teeth, go to bed and remember that your family loves you. To their parents: It’s worth it, keep going, you’re doing great!” ??Tell us about your family: “My wife Clair and I have two dogs, Nikkie (snuggle monster) and Tessie (play beast).” ??????How do you spend your free time? “I enjoy reading spooky stories, hiking, playing volleyball and diving into a game of Dungeons and Dragons.” ????If you could have any superpower, what would it be? “Super-healing—being in my 30s is catching up to me!” This or that: ??Read the book or watch the movie? “Book every time!” ??Go back in time or go to the future? “Far-flung future!” ???Coffee or tea? “Coffee…I’m a doctor!” ??Beach or mountains? “Beach! I love starting the day with a book and coffee while watching the sunrise over the waves, then treating myself to ice cream in the afternoon.” ????? ??Early bird or night owl? “Early bird. A chapter of kindness ???? Dr. Catherine Peterson, chief psychologist at Atrium Health Levine Children’s in Charlotte, has teamed up with a local high school to bring joy to our Spanish-speaking families in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Atrium Health Levine Children’s Hospital! Thanks to the students in the school’s Latino club, a heartwarming book drive has resulted in the donation of 70 brand-new Spanish-language board books. Each student brought their own story to this effort: Christian, a NICU graduate, knows firsthand how meaningful these books can be. Erika, who is from Venezuela, knows the power of hearing stories in your native language. Rebeca dreams of a future in the medical field, and Leah is all about giving back to her community. These students are writing a beautiful chapter in the lives of our families and their thoughtful donations will leave a lasting impact. ???
