Are you aware of the latest scams targeting individuals and businesses? A new U.S. Federal Trade Commission scam is hitting Northeast Ohio. The scam arrived via USPS Priority Mail in a standard 8 1/2 x 11 envelope, addressed to someone in the company who wouldn't typically handle financial matters. It turns out this is part of a larger scam where bad actors send out letters pretending to be from the FTC, demanding payment for late fees or similar charges. This well-crafted attempt could easily deceive those not on high alert for such fraud. ?? What should you do if you receive a similar letter? ?? Do Not Respond: Do not reply to the letter or call any phone numbers provided in the scam letter. ?? Verify the Source: Contact the FTC directly through their official website or phone number to confirm the legitimacy of the communication. ?? Secure Personal Information: Ensure your personal and company's sensitive information hasn't been compromised. Consider changing passwords and monitoring accounts for unusual activity. ?? Report the Scam: To keep your community aware, report the incident to the Federal Trade Commission and the BBB ScamTracker. ??
