Thank you Cascade Climate for all the hard work to advance the field of ERW!
Today, Cascade Climate is thrilled to announce the release of “Foundations for Carbon Dioxide Removal Quantification in Enhanced Rock Weathering Deployments.” This groundbreaking, community-developed “Foundations” document creates a rich touchstone to help ensure a common core of quantification rigor as the community pursues deployment-driven learning about ERW. It distills today’s best available science and considerations for quantifying each component of ERW carbon and cation fluxes. So many of you helped make this happen. “Foundations" is the culmination of an intensive community process undertaken from October 2023 through August 2024, involving 50+ academic scientists, 20+ ERW project developers and other market actors, and a range of civil society organizations. We hope that “Foundations" will prove a valuable resource to many practitioners and researchers who set out to deploy and learn about ERW in the coming years. Looking beyond this moment of publication, we are actively working with many partners to translate all the guidance and insights captured in “Foundations” into real-world practice. We aim to steer early deployments to take on the needed level of site characterization, direct measurements, and other key building blocks of quantification rigor. As a community, we cannot unlock a faster and tighter cycle of deployment-led learning without doing so.? ? All of us at Cascade would like to express our immense gratitude to all of you who contributed your time and hard-won wisdom to this outcome of a remarkable community effort. Thank you Nikki Batchelor for sharing these highlights from #ClimateWeekNYC !
Feeling energized after the biggest #ClimateWeekNYC yet! Incredible to see momentum building and new people mobilizing across the full range of climate solutions and topics. Carbon removal was fiercely represented this year with multiple waitlisted events daily and too many to even attend. While we still have a long way to go, this alone is progress. Some personal highlights: ?? The Premier of Legion 44, the world's first feature carbon removal documentary, amazing work Leila Conners and team! Watch the trailer here and look for a screening in a city near you: https://lnkd.in/gfsV3iJb ??CarbonSmart Summit by Flowcarbon discussing the race to scale with four of the amazing XPRIZE Carbon Removal Finalists: Julia Reichelstein, Vaulted Deep, Jim Mann, UNDO, Mike Kelland, Planetary, Nishad Pai, Heirloom. ??Puro.earth Summit that brought together leaders across the CDR ecosystem to discuss how to increase demand and tackle the biggest challenges in the space. Nice work Joseph Kochanski, Trenton Spindler, Antti Vihavainen on a great event and Ben Rubin for moderating an important discussion on lessons learned. ??The largest ever Community CDR Reception hosted by Activate,?C2V Initiative,?Carbon Business Council,?Carbon180,?Carbon to Sea Initiative,?Carbon Removal Alliance,?Carbon Removal Canada,?Cascade Climate,?Direct Air Capture Coalition,?The OpenAir Collective, and?XPRIZE.?? ??Private workshop with SBTi organized by Carbon Gap on the role of removals in corporate net-zero transitions. ??Ongoing workshops hosted throughout the week by Gabrielle Walker, Rethinking Removals to help bridge some of the largest divides and fault lines across reductions, removals, and nature so we can move forward as a united front for nature and net zero. ??Amazing dinner hosted by Carbonfuture, Carbon Business Council, and NextGen CDR bringing together corporate sustainability leaders, policymakers, and innovators to address one of the biggest challenges of achieving net-zero. #NetZero #CarbonRemoval #CDR #CorporateSustainability

Great news!
?? Breaking new ground in climate action: UNDO x Microsoft ?? We're excited to announce a follow-on deal with Microsoft -? our largest collaboration yet and a major leap in our fight against climate change. What this means: - 65,000 tonnes of crushed silicate rock will be spread in the UK and Canada. - 15,000 tonnes of CO? will be permanently removed from our atmosphere. - Funds from this collaboration will boost our field trials in the UK and Canada, enhancing our research into the benefits of enhanced rock weathering (ERW). This project marks a significant scale-up from our initial agreement with Microsoft in 2023, reinforcing the tech giant’s dedication to innovative climate solutions like ours. ERW, a high-permanence, nature-enabled carbon removal method, not only addresses the urgent climate crisis but also improves soil health and supports farming communities. This collaboration is just the beginning. By working with Canadian Wollastonite and utilising their high-quality silicate rock, we’re advancing our technology and scientific research to deliver more impactful and scalable carbon removal solutions. Together, we’re on a mission to bring carbon removal capabilities to rural communities around the world, pushing closer towards net zero. Follow our journey as we continue to break new ground in carbon removal technology and forge collaborations that shape the future of our planet. ?? https://lnkd.in/eVRNMAHt #CarbonRemoval #ClimateAction #Sustainability #Innovation #Microsoft #UNDOCarbon #ERW #EnhancedRockWeathering

Climeworks at Climate Week NYC! It just seems right
Today we made history – with our largest event at Climate Week NYC ever! Our Summit brought together hundreds of guests from the private and public sector, to discuss the benefits and opportunities for scaling and procuring carbon removal now. Some highlights of the day included: - California State Senator Josh Becker giving remarks on why policy is needed to support the growth of CDR. - Noah Deich from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), Noel Bakhtian from the Bezos Earth Fund and Giana Amador from the Carbon Removal Alliance discussing benefits of carbon removal for the North American economy. - Akshat Rathi highlighting the concept of “Climate Capitalism,” and how the private sector can successfully drive climate action. Throughout the afternoon, guests joined smaller breakout sessions, focused on topics such as building carbon removal portfolios, and the intersection of climate action and health. We had the honor of welcoming former Louisiana Senator Mary Landrieu, who provided opening remarks for a session on innovative solutions for industries to address residual emissions. Thanks to all that joined us and helped make this such an inspiring day! #Climeworks #ClimateAction #ClimateWeekNYC
