This week, Amazon announced that it is partnering with NYU Langone to launch Amazon One, a contactless palm screening technology, throughout the health system. Amazon One was first launched in 2020 as a means to improve customer experience and enable fast, easy and contactless identity management. The technology works by enrolling a user’s palm with a connected Amazon One device, which creates and stores a “unique palm signature” based on each individual’s identity. Once completed, moving forward, users can simply wave their palm over a device at entry, which will recognize their unique signature and identity to be granted access. Amazon One was initially rolled out primarily at Amazon stores and Whole Foods locations, with the vision behind the technology to eventually be deployed to a variety of other settings, including office spaces, stadiums, airports and any other places where identity management is critical. Fast forward four years later, and Amazon has found one of the most crucial environments that requires sophisticated identity management: healthcare. NYU Langone is one of the largest health systems in the country, employing nearly 52,000 people across 2000+ beds and 6 emergency departments, while boasting a revenue of nearly $14.2 billion dollars annually. Secure identity management is of paramount importance for any health system let alone NYU’s system, which sees nearly 11.3 million outpatient visits every year. https://lnkd.in/eQ-kQZW4 #amazon #privacy #healthcareaccess #healthcare #healthcareinnovations #healthcaretechnology #healthandwellness #healthandwellbeing #technology #innovation #healthcaretrends #patientcare #patientcentric #patients #hospitals #healthcareproviders #healthcareprofessionals #healthcaresystems

Virtual nursing, like telehealth, has become a crucial part of health systems in recent years and is expected to continue growing. Both improve access to healthcare for people who can’t easily travel to medical facilities, especially those living in rural areas or with mobility challenges. It also ensures continuity of care by connecting patients with the nurses they know and who are familiar with their needs. It’s not a new idea, either. For example, Samsung helped St. Luke’s Health System develop a 24/7 virtual platform in 2018. Based in Boise, the facility built a virtual care center that connects nurses with rural care providers and their patients to make care more accessible. This need for virtual nursing is only increasing, especially as nurse shortages persist and potentially overwhelm existing staff. Virtual nursing helps healthcare organizations address these challenges, especially when paired with the right technology to succeed. OWN Your Health is taking a bold step forward in the fight against cancer. In a newly announced partnership with the American Cancer Society, OWN is joining forces with the VOICES of Black Women campaign—an ambitious study aiming to recruit 100,000 Black women between the ages of 25–55 to help deepen the understanding of cancer risks and outcomes in the community. It's a crucial effort. Despite progress in cancer research, Black women continue to face higher mortality rates and lower survival rates for most cancers than any other racial or ethnic group in the U.S. The VOICES study is designed to address that disparity, collecting invaluable data to inform better prevention, treatment and survivorship strategies. "We are honored to support VOICES of Black Women in its mission to understand and address these health disparities," said Tina Perry, President of OWN. "By leveraging OWN's platform—across television, digital and social media—we hope to encourage more Black women to take part in this groundbreaking study." Dr. Wayne A.I. Frederick, interim CEO of the American Cancer Society, echoed the importance of this collaboration: "Partnering with Black women to listen and better understand their lived experiences will give us the data we need to develop tailored solutions. The public's participation in our studies has led to landmark discoveries before, and we believe it can again." https://lnkd.in/gqn4cw5e #americancancersociety #acs #cancer #cancerawareness #oncology #womenshealth #communitysupport #voices

With the growing use of telemedicine, remote patient monitoring devices, and other digital healthcare services, it’s become clear companies must address the digital divide in healthcare to increase access and promote patient engagement, especially among underserved and rural populations. Mobile technology can help bridge this gap, allowing insurers and healthcare providers to deliver patient education and a range of healthcare services that potentially improve care quality — regardless of what patients can afford, where they live, or the level of digital access in their communities. https://lnkd.in/gPYGYCGp #digitalcare #digitalmedicine #telehealth #telemedicine #virtualcare #virtualhealthcare #healthcareaccess #healthcare #healthcareinnovations #healthcaretechnology #healthandwellness #healthandwellbeing #technology #innovation #healthcaretrends #patientcare #patientcentric #patients #hospitals #healthcareproviders #healthcareprofessionals #healthcaresystems

The healthcare industry is in a constant state of evolution. As the new year gets underway, leaders are tasked with balancing innovation—a key to staying competitive and efficient—with the unchanging priority of delivering exceptional patient care. In my opinion, this balancing act is one of the most significant challenges healthcare leaders face today. How do we embrace new technologies and processes without losing sight of what truly matters: the well-being of the patients we serve? https://lnkd.in/gjAsmmpJ #healthcare #healthcareinnovations #healthcaretechnology #healthandwellness #healthandwellbeing #technology #innovation #healthcaretrends #patientcare #patientcentric #patients #hospitals #healthcareproviders #healthcareprofessionals #healthcaresystems #healthcareaccess

The recent enactment of California Senate Bill 1120, the "Physicians Make Decisions Act," has ignited a critical conversation about the role of AI in healthcare decision-making. As a healthcare technology professional with years of experience balancing innovation and patient rights, I view this legislation as a timely chance to explore the potential and challenges of AI in healthcare. At its core, the law prohibits health insurers from using AI as the sole basis for denying health insurance claims, ensuring that human judgment remains integral to coverage decisions. This isn’t just a California issue—it’s a national debate waiting to unfold. While the act highlights the importance of preserving humanity in healthcare, it brings operational and technological challenges that require careful consideration. https://lnkd.in/g2TN8ApK #ai #artificialintelligence #digitalcare #digitalmedicine #virtualcare #virtualhealthcare #healthcareaccess #healthcare #healthcareinnovations #healthcaretechnology #healthandwellness #healthandwellbeing #technology #innovation #healthcaretrends #patientcare #patientcentric #patients #hospitals #healthcareproviders #healthcareprofessionals #healthcaresystems

Try putting on your socks and shoes while balancing on one leg—all without ever touching the ground. It sounds easy, but if you wobble or lose balance, it could be a sign that your mobility and flexibility need work. In a new video, Jeff Cavaliere, C.S.C.S., shared five exercises to help you improve these key skills, ensuring you stay strong and stable as you age. Cavaliere is a trainer and former head physical therapist for the New York Mets. Through his Athlean-X platform, he shares advice on building strength, improving mobility, and preventing injuries. The socks and shoes balance test, coined as the "old man test," is one that only 14 percent of people over the age of 40 can successfully complete. Cavaliere says if you can pass the test, you're in a good starting place. If not, he suggests working on five key exercises: single-leg RDLs, squat and reach, sumo stance, pushup to superman, and the Jane Fonda leg hold. https://lnkd.in/gvtfEdxv #menshealth #exercises #abs #physicalfitness #strengthening #muscles #weightlifting #weighttraining #physicaltherapy #physicaltherapists #physicalhealth #healthcare #healthandwellness #healthandwellbeing

Recent industry analysis reveals mounting cybersecurity challenges facing healthcare organizations globally, with ransomware attacks continuing to dominate security concerns heading into 2025. Health-ISAC’s comprehensive survey of nearly 200 healthcare executives and cybersecurity professionals identified five critical cybersecurity threats facing healthcare organizations. Findings revealed ransomware deployments topping the list, followed by third-party breaches, data breaches, supply chain attacks, and zero-day exploits. The findings reflect a significant shift in the threat landscape, with organizations expressing particular concern about third-party breaches using zero-day exploits. Three of the top five concerns relate to this scenario, similar to previous incidents like the MoveIT Managed File Transfer exploitation. Organizations with both the highest and lowest cybersecurity budgets identified AI-enabled attacks as their primary concern for 2025 despite the collective consensus ranking ransomware deployments as the greatest threat. https://lnkd.in/ghXQ8k4s #cybersecurity #patientdata #healthcareaccess #healthcare #healthcareinnovations #healthcaretechnology #healthandwellness #healthandwellbeing #technology #innovation #healthcaretrends #patientcare #patientcentric #patients #hospitals #healthcareproviders #healthcareprofessionals #healthcaresystems
