Charting the unexplored depths of spatial biology

关于我们

AtlasXomics, a 2020 Yale spin-out, is helping researchers understand the delicate epigenetic interplay and networks between cell types in their native environment that drives pathogenesis. We have helped over 50 investigators in oncology, aging, and neuroscience among other fields to locate and characterize driving epigenetic mechanisms in the tissue microenvironment. These mechanisms underly disease states and treatment responses. AtlasXomics combines epigenomics (spatial ATAC-seq and spatial CUT&Tag) with histology to provide insight that is often missed by bulk or single cell genomic tools. Our technology is primed for multi-omics studies in the same tissue section that uniquely positions us to identify and verify functional epigenetic mechanisms with proteome and transcriptome output. Mapping the cellular environment with an unbiased epigenome focus is needed to bring research closer to ground truth in diseased tissue to improve success rates for therapeutic interventions.

Excited to share that AtlasXomics Inc. has been continuing to work with the team at LatchBio to simplify the complexity of spatial biology data analysis, particularly spatial epigenome and multi-omics data. We know how challenging it can be for researchers without programming experience to navigate these complex datasets, which is why we’ve developed an interactive, no-code bioinformatics suite to make it easier for biologists to explore their spatial epigenome data. James McGann and I will be presenting this toolset on October 21st at Latch’s 'Data Infrastructure for Biotech,' where we’ll discuss our vision of making spatial epigenome analysis a part of every research question. Stay tuned for more!

Quick appreciation post for an inspiring team called AtlasXomics Inc. using technology to make people's lives better. I've been fortunate to work with this team for the past 2 years and am consistently inspired by how quickly they are improving, and how much they care. In essence, Atlas is a team of 27 scientists and engineers in Connecticut building a platform to reveal the underlying causes of disease. They gather tissue from scientists around the world - cancer tissue, heart tissue, brain tissue - and then create spatial maps of how disease is progressing in that tissue (based on overlaid gene expression and epigenetic signatures). The results are these beautiful and awe-inspiring spatial maps that elucidate disease progression. (It is insane to me that humans are making such rapid advancements to truly understand how diseases like cancer and cardiovascular disease develop, and collaborating to find cures.) The rate of progress is astounding too. Similar to how youtube videos went from 180p to 4k resolution in a few years, exponential change in resolution is happening here.? What you see below is the brain of a mouse at different levels of spatial resolution. Each map, as you go left to right, displays higher and higher resolution of spatial context. Giving a clearer picture into the state of the disease. From 2,500 pixels --> 9,200 pixels --> 48,400 pixels in just 12 months. We often hear about exponential improvements in technology, but now you can actually see them. I'll be talking with Colin Ng next week about their team's journey and the details of how they built this. Feel free to tune in. Link below.
