Earlier this week our President, Mike Riccitiello, and our founder, Tom Caldwell, co-wrote and delivered a presentation at this year’s National Urban Search and Rescue Conference in Orlando, Florida. During the presentation, Mike and Tom shared valuable insights on the role of civilian positions on US&R teams, highlighting the challenges and successes in integrating engineers into search and rescue operations. We are incredibly proud of them and our entire team for their dedication and hard work in advancing the service role that engineers can provide in disaster areas. This event was also a fantastic opportunity to connect with industry leaders, exchange ideas, and explore new strategies to enhance our capabilities at the State level. Thank you to everyone who attended and supported us at the conference!

Tom Caldwell and I had a wonderful experience last week presenting to the UNC Charlotte ASCE Student Chapter! Tom and I are pictured here with the Student Chapter's President and Vice President. Tom's presentation included aspects of emergency engineering and a FEMA deployment in 2023 regarding an earthen dam damaged by excessive rainfall. I was able to present about my career over the past 6 years, including examples of the many different types of structural and building envelope projects I’ve been part of at Atlas Engineering, Inc. Some of my favorite experiences in my career have been connecting with students. It’s so important that we encourage students and young engineers to find their passion and follow it.?

We are thrilled to highlight the incredible contributions of our recent summer intern, Audrey Mobed, who completed her time with us recently and is already hard at work back at NC State! From day one, Audrey demonstrated a positive attitude and willingness to learn. Always ready to jump into unfamiliar situations, she showed remarkable growth and adaptability. And with a cheerful smile and a list of questions, she was an absolute joy to have on the team. With engineering students like you on the horizon, our profession has a bright future. Thank you, Audrey, for your hard work and dedication and we wish you all the best in your continued studies at NC State and beyond!
This summer, I had the privilege of interning at Atlas Engineering, Inc., where I gained hands-on experience with a range of structural and building envelope projects, such as roof replacements, waterproofing, new school construction in Wake County, higher education building repair, and residential damage assessments. This internship complimented my academic background, offering practical exposure to the concepts I’ve studied in class. The numerous site visits provided invaluable insights into building repair processes and allowed me to observe the dynamic interactions between engineers and contractors firsthand. Beyond the technical knowledge gained, this experience significantly enhanced my communication skills and ability to build strong interpersonal relationships. I am incredibly grateful to Mike Riccitiello for creating this opportunity and for his steadfast support and mentorship. A sincere thank you to the entire Atlas team for their guidance and for sharing their expertise so generously. As I move forward in my academic and professional journey, I am excited to apply the knowledge and experiences gained at Atlas. Thank you all for making this summer an unforgettable and enriching experience!
