Did you know that some clinical trials are now done virtually? Virtual clinical trials can be done on a hybrid basis or completely remotely, offering several potential advantages over onsite trials. One of those is monitoring safety and adverse events. “A lot of times, when CRAs are traveling and onsite, we’re trying to piece together what happened since the last trial,” Suzanna Langworthy, Senior Clinical Research Associate at ARG, said. “With adverse events, we have to report them to the sponsors and the regulatory agencies. Sometimes, these events aren’t reported to people at my level. With virtual studies, we can take more proactive measures and have more oversight, making the study itself stronger. Biostatistics are a crucial aspect of clinical trials, but to the average person, they can be complicated. “How I explain it to most people when I get asked what I do for a living is by putting it into perspective I feel most everyone can relate to,” ARG’s Director of Data Informatics, Hali Beeson, said. “I explain that we do the analysis that people might hear regarding a new drug in ads and TV commercials. when the ads/commercials indicate that a percentage of people saw X, Y, or Z results or had X, Y,?or Z side effects, we’re the department that comes up with those numbers."
