It is a huge honor to take on the role as Chairperson of the Atlantic Institute Governing Board this year. Working alongside the amazing Chris Oechsli who has served as Chairperson and President of Atlantic Philanthropies & Elizabeth Kiss (Warden of Rhodes House, Oxford) for the last few years on this journey to realize the bold mission and vision of Chuck Feeney and Atlantic Philanthropies has had an enormous impact on me personally and professionally. As we move into our next phase of growth with close to 1,000 Fellows from all over the world committed to justice, equity and inclusion our commitment to values-based leadership, connection, collaboration and lifelong Fellowship remains relevant and so important to the world we find ourselves in. I look forward to working in service of our amazing Fellows and being supported by an amazing Board made up of Kevin Liverpool, Amina Evangelista Swanepoel, Armine Ishkanian, Kofi Appenteng, Roger Glass, and our formidable Executive Director Lysa John

Human Rights Day on Dec. 10 marked the?anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), a document that enshrines the inalienable rights that everyone is entitled to as a human being — regardless of race, color, religion, sex, language, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status. I’m feeling really grateful for my time on the Atlantic Institute Governing Board. Being part of this group has been such a valuable experience, and I’ve learned so much about governance and leadership from everyone on the board. I want to give a special thank you to Elizabeth Kiss and Chris Oechsli, who are stepping off the board. They played a huge role in creating and establishing the Atlantic Institute within the Rhodes Trust, and their guidance and dedication have been inspiring. I’ve been so lucky to learn from them and to see how they lead with care and purpose. To the rest of the AIGB, thank you for your support and the lessons I’ve picked up along the way. "A challenging and complex journey of rapid response, experimentation and profound learning” is how Evie O'Brien describes her tenure as the Atlantic Institute Executive Director. When the Global Atlantic Fellows Annual Convening closes in Oxford, Evie will finally step down from the role to return to Aotearoa/New Zealand.
