  • Yesterday, we celebrated World Toilet Day, a global reminder of the importance of sanitation and wastewater treatment. ???? Our dedicated Wastewater Treatment Plant team works 24/7 to protect public health and the environment. This team of wastewater operators, electricians, instrumentation techs, mechanics, water lab analysts, administrative professionals, and more ensures that our operations run smoothly and our waterways stay clean and safe. ?? To show our appreciation, we treated them to cookies decorated with toilets and poo emojis—a fun way to recognize their critical contributions. ???? Janette from our Human Resources team got in the spirit for the day by wearing festive attire. ?? World Toilet Day highlights a serious global challenge: 4.2 billion people live without safely managed sanitation, and nearly 80% of wastewater worldwide goes untreated. We're proud to play a part in addressing this issue by providing reliable wastewater management for our community. ?? Join us in thanking this incredible team for their essential work! ??

  • This past Saturday, we celebrated America Recycles Day at our recycling center with an Open House! ?? The event featured a recycled art exhibit, an inspiring recycled art award ceremony, interactive games and crafts, and behind-the-scenes tours of our landfill. It was a day filled with fun, learning, and creativity. This annual tradition shines a light on the work we do to manage Atlantic County’s waste responsibly and inspires new ways to rethink and reduce waste. ??

  • ACUA is thrilled to partner with PolyGone on a groundbreaking pilot program to capture microplastics from treated wastewater before it's released into the ocean. PolyGone's Artificial Root is designed to filter out these harmful particles, helping to protect our waterways from pollution. ?? An educational pavilion has been built at the site, inviting the community to learn more about the project and the impact of microplastics. Hear from ACUA President Matthew DeNafo, ACUA Vice President of Wastewater Joe Pantalone, and PolyGone Co-Founders Yidian Liu and Nathaniel Banks as they share insights into the partnership and how this innovative system works. Learn more about the project at acua.com/microplastics.

ACUA was proud to attend the Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA) WASTECON conference in Grapevine, TX, where we accepted the 2024 Best Safety Innovation Award! This recognition highlights our commitment to public safety, with a focus on protecting waste and recycling collection workers on the road. Our “Slow Down to Get Around” campaign, developed by ACUA’s Solid Waste Collections, Risk Management, and Authority Relations teams, educates the public on New Jersey’s Move Over Law and safe driving practices. Initially shared through social media and billboards throughout the county, the campaign gained even greater reach thanks to a $20,000 grant from the NJ Division of Highway Traffic Safety, which allowed us to air the video on local TV. Trash and recycling collection is ranked the 6th most dangerous job in the U.S., and we’re grateful to be a part of the movement to bring much-needed awareness to the safety of these essential workers. To learn more about the award and our safety campaign, visit https://lnkd.in/e4JcDMUB. Thank you to SWANA for this honor and to everyone who supports safer roads for waste and recycling collection workers. ACUA Safety & Risk Manager Janette Kessler also presented at the conference during a safety session focused on heat safety on the frontlines.?Janette’s focus was on practical approaches to ensure worker safety and regulatory compliance.
