Had the White House allowed the use of ATACMS against targets in Russia from the moment Ukraine received them, the damage to Russia’s military would have been much greater, writes John Herbst.

Shaping the global future together
关于我们
The Atlantic Council promotes constructive leadership and engagement in international affairs based on the central role of the Atlantic Community in meeting global challenges. Founded in 1961, the Council provides an essential forum for navigating the dramatic shifts in economic and political influence that are shaping the twenty-first century by educating and galvanizing its uniquely influential, nonpartisan network of international political, business, and intellectual leaders. Through the papers we write, the ideas we promote, and the communities we build, the Council’s regional centers and functional programs shape today’s policy choices and foster transatlantic strategies to advance international security and global economic prosperity. The Council is home to 16 regional and functional programs that advance the organization's mission. * Follow us on X at https://x.com/atlanticcouncil * Follow us on Instagram @atlanticcouncil * Like us on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/AtlanticCouncil * For the latest employment opportunities, visit https://www.atlanticcouncil.org/careers/ * For a schedule of upcoming events, visit https://www.atlanticcouncil.org/events/#allevents

“If the incoming Trump administration isn’t distracted by deporting immigrants and purging perceived enemies in the US military, judiciary, and intelligence services, then it can apply a mixture of negotiations and military means to press Tehran,” writes Frederick Kempe in #InflectionPoints.

Honored to be the editor and co-author of this report on N. #Macedonia for the Atlantic Council. "North Macedonia: A reform agenda on the path to EU integration" A privilege to bring together Malinka Ristevska Jordanova, Biljana Ivanovska, Lura Pollozhani, Sara Milenkovska, and Branimir Jovanovic - people of integrity and thought leaders in their fields - to make clear policy recommendations for reforms needed to be undertaken by the new Macedonian government. I'm especially glad that 4 of the 6 authors are women and that we included younger voices. https://lnkd.in/e8YVTiQg

I don't usually post media interviews, but I want to flag up the fantastic work being done by many news outlets on the Baltic Sea cable cut. Here's Deutsche Welle last night, and I've also done interviews with a number of other outlets, and all the reporters/anchors have been extremely well-informed and asked excellent questions. That matters, because the sabotage of these cables are yet another grayzone attack on European countries, and these attacks are causing real harm. https://lnkd.in/emHSZJKf Oh and the latest. The Yi Peng 3 is now stopped in the Kattegat. Unclear why. The drama continues!

My National Interest commentary, co-authored with the Atlantic Council’s Shirley Martey Hargis, on President Trump's #Taiwan policy. We recommend 5 moves: uphold the long-standing US one China policy; visit Indo-Pacific allies early in his administration; send a cabinet-level official to Taiwan, now permissible under the Taiwan Travel Act; clarify that Taiwan is not for the US to sell; and pursue a peace through strength posture by approving arms sales that address both symmetric and asymmetric threats.
