关于我们

regional planning + local relevance The Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) serves as a catalyst for regional progress by focusing leadership, attention and planning resources on key regional issues. ARC is the regional planning and intergovernmental coordination agency for the 11-county metro Atlanta area including Cherokee, Clayton, Cobb, DeKalb, Douglas, Fayette, Forsyth, Fulton, Gwinnett, Henry and Rockdale counties, as well as the City of Atlanta. For 60 years, ARC and its predecessor agencies have helped to focus the region's leadership, attention and resources on key issues of regional consequence. ARC is dedicated to unifying the region's collective resources to prepare the metropolitan area for a prosperous future. It does so through professional planning initiatives, the provision of objective information and the involvement of the community in collaborative partnerships.

Perimeter Community Improvement District received a total of $254,000 in study funding from an original study + four supplemental/tactical studies. The study area includes the City of Dunwoody, City of Sandy Springs, and unincorporated DeKalb County; and includes three MARTA stations: Medical Center, Dunwoody, and Sandy Springs. The 2001 initial LCI study laid the groundwork for the transformation of Perimeter Center from a suburban regional center to a livable mixed-use community. An update followed in 2005. In 2011 sustainable growth management, livability enhancements, and connectivity were prioritized. The LCI Program has funded 6 transportation projects in Perimeter Center totaling more than $13 million for streetscapes, pedestrian/bicycle and transit connectivity, pedestrian improvements, multimodal transit scape, and Dunwoody Transit Station improvements. Mixed-use, walkable developments with community gathering spaces include High Street, Ashford Crossing, and Park Place. Join us as ARC celebrates 25 years of transforming communities. ARC’s Livable Center Initiative (LCI) incentivizes local jurisdictions to create walkable, accessible places. Share pics and memories of your favorite LCI using #LCI25. #OneGreatRegion

One of the first 12 Livable Centers Initiative (LCI) grant recipients, the city of Duluth completed the original ‘Envision Duluth’ LCI study in 2001 and received additional study funds in 2010 for its major update. Prior to 2001, the city had already started construction of its 8-acre Town Green. Duluth has been diligent in implementation of LCI plan recommendations. Duluth also received two LCI transportation grants of approximately $2.8 million for the Duluth Town Green Pathways and Ridgeway Extension/Hospital Connector Road. Downtown Duluth boasts a prominent City Hall, Festival Center with a fountain and amphitheater, Taylor Park, Parsons Alley, and a healthy mix of retail, restaurants, breweries, and office uses. Join us as ARC celebrates 25 years of transforming communities through LCI. LCIs incentivize local jurisdictions to create exciting, walkable, accessible places. With $357 million invested thus far, we've impacted more than 133 metro communities since 2000. Follow us as we highlight LCI success stories. Share pics and memories of your favorite LCI projects using #LCI25. Together, let's shape #OneGreatRegion. #LivableCentersInitiative

Located in Cobb County, the Town Center area is a beacon of success for the LCI Program, which has been instrumental in its evolution. Town Center CID completed its first LCI Plan in 2004. This plan, together with the LCI plans and studies that followed, fostered an understanding of the district’s strengths, opportunities, and future challenges that has guided investments and growth over two decades. The LCI Program has spurred the CID to consider better walkability, transit options, and mixed-use development, improved accessibility, enhanced pedestrian and bike infrastructure, and increased green spaces, parks and recreational areas throughout its boundaries. Plan categories of projects funded by the LCI Program include transportation, housing and local initiatives, land use and zoning, and economic development. A few highlights include the TCCID Electrification Plan (2023), Chastain Road Corridor Study, Noonday Creek Trail pedestrian crossing, Bells Ferry Operational Study, the Big Shanty Connector, and the South Barrett Reliever Phase 3. The CID will be kicking off another update of its LCI plan in 2025. In addition, numerous policy, code, land use, and zoning conversations spurred by LCI plans and studies for the district have occurred over the last twenty years, not only with Cobb County but at the regional and state level.
