Delta Air Lines’ history of international flight dates back to its first years as a Louisiana crop dusting operation. In 1927, the two-year-old company extended dusting services to Peru and operated a mail and passenger route on the west coast of South America the year following. Its first U.S. passenger flight abroad was in 1953, from New Orleans to Havana and Caracas. Its first trans-Atlantic flight left Atlanta for London in 1978. It began trans-Pacific service in 1987. And in its next 100 years, the Atlanta-based carrier says its future growth will be global. More: https://lnkd.in/eUTjJ-6g

One of Midtown’s largest eyesores is poised to become a rare park nuzzled among some of the city’s landmark skyscrapers. The Midtown Improvement District is under contract to acquire the 4-acre undeveloped lot at 98 14th St., the Midtown Alliance announced at its annual meeting Tuesday. The site was once envisioned for a new symphony hall and later for high-rise condo towers that never came to fruition. Midtown Alliance President and CEO Kevin Green said the space will be developed into a public park. “For years, we’ve sat and talked about the imperative of creating open space in Midtown to permanently protect,” he told the 1,000-plus person crowd at the Fox Theatre. Over the past few weeks, artist Fabian Williams has painted a mural of Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter in the domestic terminal of Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. A longtime street artist, Williams has created public murals for the past nine years, including in East Point, Cabbage Town, near Edgewood Avenue and at Morehouse College. But a mural at the world’s busiest airport has special significance. “There’s so many people that come through the airport — especially this airport — every day. … So it’s more eyes,” Williams said. “The goal of an artist is really just for people to see their work.” Read more about his work here: https://lnkd.in/ePtr4SPe

A Macon historical park — whose supporters are pushing for it to become Georgia’s first national park — has been named one of the world’s greatest places of 2025 by TIME magazine. The expansive Ocmulgee Mounds National Historical Park holds seven ancient mounds built around 900 C.E. on land that has been occupied for over 12,000 years. The land was home to four prehistoric cultures, and the mounds that still stand today were built by the Mississippians, according to the National Park Service. Have you ever been?
