Bowden, W. Callier, T. Ector, W. Hamer, M. Harp, G. Jordan Jr, R. Lester, J. Maddox, E. Morrow, M. Reed, Q. Redding, H. Rosemond, E. Smith, and R. Ware. ? These trailblazers broke barriers and fought not only fires but also for equality and justice. Their courage and legacy continue to inspire us today! On June 17, 1985, William H. Hamer made history as Atlanta’s first Black Fire Chief, appointed by Mayor Andrew Young. A native of Florence, Alabama, Chief Hamer was part of the trailblazing group of 15 Black firefighters who joined the City of Atlanta in 1963. They were assigned to Station 16 on Simpson Road (now Joseph P. Boone Boulevard NW). Life Saving Simulator ?? As crews wrap up their work on the new Atlanta Public Safety Training Center, some educational material is starting to arrive. The City of Atlanta continues to advance?our commitment to keep you safe in every situation. Firefighter-EMTs and police will learn how to take care of a patient inside an ambulance. ? The Atlanta Public Safety Training Center will feature simulators and reality-based training, equipping our first responders with the critical skills and experience necessary to protect and serve the community when it matters most.
