This is the perfect event if you want to create and drive change. They’re going to be talking about their research that covers systems of innovation in the public and private sector.
Join me in welcoming distinguished professors Alicia Sheares and Jonathan Collins back to Atlanta as they discuss their journey from undergraduates at the AUC to tier-one researchers. They will also preview key findings from their research on the systems behind innovation in the public and private sectors on Monday, March 24th. Register here: https://lnkd.in/gqsTUaPU Our fireside chat will reaffirm the power of increasing access to institutions both in the innovation economy and our local government. This convening of published scholars of sociology and political science serves as a unique opportunity for university students and alumni to engage with thought leaders and expand their networks. Alicia Sheares, Ph.D. is an assistant professor at the Stanford School of Engineering Management Science and Engineering Department and an alumna of Spelman College, University of Oxford and the University of California Berkeley. Currently, she’s working on two major projects. The first explores the experiences of Black tech entrepreneurs in Silicon Valley and Atlanta, while the second explores individual and company-level factors that are associated with success among Black and Latine startups in the U.S. Her research has been published in Social Forces, the Sociology of Race and Ethnicity, Big Data and Society, and the International Migration Review. Jonathan E. Collins is an assistant professor at the Columbia University Teacher’s College and director of the School Board and Youth Engagement Lab. Dr. Collins is an alumni of Morehouse College and the University of California Los Angeles. Collins has a deep passion for conducting community-engaged research, while simultaneously focusing on large-scale national-level data collection efforts and the development of new technologies that make local governments more accessible. His academic research has been published in the American Political Science Review, Political Behavior, the Urban Affairs Review, Politics Groups & Identities, the Journal of Urban Affairs, Local Government Studies, and the Harvard Journal of African American Policy. His commentary has been featured in The Washington Post, Education Week, The Wall Street Journal, Forbes and NPR. Big thank you to the Ivy+ Clubs of Georgia for co-sponsoring and the Alpha Rho chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc for hosting us. For the Black women in tech. ?? We're kicking off #WomensHistoryMonth with the shine on the women leaders, creators, and innovators who are making waves in tech. Share the community, build the community — we're shouting out dope members of our community on #InternationalWomensDay. Meet Shakira Johnson, when asked about what excites her most about tech, she said, "What excites me about the future of tech?(I'm a newbie in it and never thought it was possible for me, but I love it)?is the power to drive equity and accessibility.?At Nject, we're using data to empower voters, and I believe the future of tech lies in purposeful innovation that benefits everyone?. As a woman in tech, I'm also eager to see more diverse leadership shaping the industry, especially since this an entirely new industry for me to take flight." Rachel Lee of Wellcrafted Startups said, "The future of technology is moving fast and I can't help but feel excited about what's ahead. What stands out to me the most isn't just the pace of innovation but how accessible tech is becoming. More than ever, people without traditional tech backgrounds are stepping up and turning bold ideas into reality. At Wellcrafted Startups, I get to see firsthand how visionary, nontechnical founders are bringing their ideas to life. The playing field is shifting and building a tech product isn't just for engineers anymore. It is about creativity, strategy, and understanding your market. The barriers to entry are lower than ever which means anyone with a great idea and the right support can take the next step. AI, automation, and scalable solutions are changing the way we work and I love being part of a team that helps nontechnical entrepreneurs tap into these tools. The future of tech isn't just about the latest advancements. It is about making sure more people have the resources and frameworks to bring their ideas to life." Who's a Black woman in tech that inspires you? Drop their name in the comments so we can celebrate them! This #WomensHistoryMonth, let's continue to uplift, support, and amplify the voices shaping the future of tech. Stay tuned as we highlight more incredible women in our community. #AtlantaBlackTech
