Some of the largest publicly traded real estate companies weathered a difficult week on Wall Street with stock fluctuations that were less dramatic than the market as a whole. Stock prices for some of the largest U.S. real estate firms — Anywhere Real Estate Inc., RE/MAX and eXp World Holdings — were largely flat for the week. Meanwhile, the Dow Jones Industrial Average and Nasdaq Composite both lost about 4% of their value from Monday March 10 through Thursday. A Friday rally enabled both indexes to reclaim some, but not all, of their losses during the week. The Dow finished the week down more than 1,000 points, or 2.4%. Compass is now in “advanced talks” to acquire competitor HomeServices of America, which includes Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices (BHHS). The Wall Street Journal confirmed the nearing of this deal on March 13. Our own Agent X reported the rumors on March 3. The news comes just three months after Compass announced its $444 million acquisition of the Chicago-based @properties Christie’s International Real Estate, bringing the firm global. Miami-based Atlantic Pacific Companies acquired Canterbury Ridge Apartments in Canton via its affiliate Blue Atlantic Partners for an undisclosed amount. Atlantic Pacific plans to rename the 212-unit, garden-apartment community Atlantic Canton Ridge. The acquisition brings Atlanta Pacific’s Georgia multifamily portfolio to 19 properties with over 4,500 units. HomeSmart is set to open a new location in Suwanee later this month. The Arizona-based brokerage has been expanding in the Atlanta market since it acquired PalmerHouse Properties in 2021 and Solid Source Real Estate Companies in 2023. There are now more than 3,200 HomeSmart agents that serve the metro area, and the opening of the Suwanee office will allow further growth, the firm said in an announcement.
