    Next stop: Paris, France????? "Our journey toward governance began three years before we even invested in a set of tools," revealed a Paris data leader, challenging the rush-to-implement mindset many organizations face today. Their approach? Secure unwavering leadership commitment first. "It's our responsibility to understand the gestation period needed for a governance program tailored to the complexity of our organization and set clear expectations for leadership," they explained. This foresight proved invaluable during recent challenges. "We've seen 2 merges and acquisitions in the last year. Integrating the tech stack from 3 different companies is a mammoth task," they shared. "All of this data is usable only because we started investing in Data Governance early on." The message from Paris is clear: true data governance isn't about quick wins—it's about laying a foundation strong enough to weather any business transformation. We realized all the potential falls apart when adoption struggles," shared a Berlin data leader, cutting straight to a universal truth in data governance. Their solution? Clear OKRs. "That's the only thing that has helped us align the entire organization toward creating the value we want," they explained. This focus on measurable outcomes has become their north star in driving adoption. But the conversation quickly turned to AI. "It's fascinating - just a few years ago, AI was just a buzzword. Now it's table stakes," they noted. The shift has been dramatic: users expect AI to unblock teams, eliminate manual effort, and deliver hyper-personalized solutions. The message from Berlin is clear: the race isn't just about implementing tools anymore - it's about meeting rapidly evolving user expectations while ensuring sustainable adoption across the organization.

    Next stop: Frankfurt ???? ? “We've invested so much time and so many resources... yet I just don’t know whether we've made the right progress.” A poignant confession from a technical lead in Frankfurt reveals a universal challenge in data governance: measuring success. Even with lineage mapped, documentation complete, and metrics in place, teams still grapple with a fundamental question - what does “good” really look like? Meanwhile, governance teams face their own hard-learned lessons. “Our governance program has so much to offer; we have done so much work already,” a governance leader reflected. “I thought I would take this to the business teams once we have done the heavy lifting on our part.” But that approach revealed an oversight: “It was only when I took our work to the business team that we realized there were so many gaps. What we thought was good documentation didn’t have enough depth.” The key lesson? Business teams need to be partners from day one. “Going forward, I will ensure that, as a part of the process, I align with business teams before we start doing the hard work.” Two cities remain. But Frankfurt teaches us that in data governance, success isn’t just about the work you do - it’s about who you bring along for the journey.
