Athleticare Sports Health Foundation is a nonprofit organization seeking to create safer high school sports programs. It was founded in 2014 by Dr. Ronald Wagner. Dr. Wagner, a life-long athlete himself, noticed the number of high school sports programs in St. Louis, MO that were ill-equipped to run safely. Sports are cornerstone programs at many high schools and a lack of safety can lead to injury-prone activities and even the untimely end of young athlete’s sports careers. Dr. Wagner knew that the only way to address this problem was to increase the access to athletic trainers for these under-served schools. To combat this growing problem, he founded Athleticare Sports Health Foundation with the goal of creating safer sports programs not just in St. Louis, but across the country. Athleticare also serves as a premier resource for athletic trainers, offering professional and education resources. Our Commitments Athleticare is committed to four areas: Promoting safer sports programs Protecting student athletes Supporting the community Empowering athletic trainers

Our 2024-2025 Residency and Fellowship application is now OPEN! We are proud to offer extensive hands-on experience. All Residents and Fellows are placed at schools and play an active role in the sports programs and community. They are the Head Athletic Trainers at their respective school and have complete autonomy. They are mentored and developed by the Athleticare Staff and Faculty as they navigate the transition to practice, working through the clinical management of providing care for their respective student-athletes for all practices, games, and other sport-related events. Residents and Fellows can expect their experience to cover areas like leadership and administration within the healthcare setting, strength and conditioning, physical therapy, sports injury assessment and prevention, nutrition, mental health, manual techniques, and rehabilitation. More importantly, participants will have the chance to be independent and work autonomously. They will grow experientially through developing and leading their own sports medicine program within their respective school, interacting with students, coaches, administration, and parents along the way.
