With recent changes in NCAA transfer rules (some made voluntarily, others because of court decisions), college athletes are now annual free agents. Which means an important part of roster building for college teams is retaining players currently on the roster. #NIL compensation is a big part of that process, and those negotiations often start before the current season is over.
