On November 19, 2024, the Countywide Sanitation Activity (CWSA) joined the National WASH Commission Liberia, alongside donor institutions (USAID, United Nations, and The World Bank), government ministries, NGO partners, and students, to commemorate #WorldToiletDay at the Ellen Johnson Sirleaf Ministerial Complex in Monrovia. ? The event began with a vibrant parade along Tubman Boulevard and concluded with an indoor program centered around the national theme: 'Every Toilet Counts: Leave No One Behind,' which resonated with the global theme: 'Toilet – A Place for Peace.' With Liberia facing alarmingly high open defecation rates (35% nationwide and up to 85% in rural areas), the need for action is critical, especially as the population density is increasing in both urban and rural regions. CWSA remains steadfast in its mission to eradicate open defecation in five counties (Bong, Nimba, Lofa, Grand Bassa, and Rural Montserrado) through its One Household, One Toilet Campaign using innovative solutions such as the SATO Toilet and other locally driven approaches to ensure sustainable progress and inclusive sanitation for Liberians.
