TPMS in Commercial Trucks: ?? What’s Changing? ?? Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems (TPMS) have been mandatory in passenger cars and light trucks for years (FMVSS138 & TREAD ACT). Now, commercial trucks are following suit. As of?July 7, 2024, all new commercial trucks and trailers sold in Europe must come equipped with TPMS to alert drivers of dangerous tire pressure levels. In the U.S., TPMS adoption in commercial trucks has been growing, particularly among fleets. Some vehicles already come equipped with direct TPMS from the factory or dealership, integrating sensors with the CANBUS system. Others rely on simpler “screw-on valve cap” sensors connected to a mobile app or receiver. No matter the system, the benefits are clear:?better tire pressure monitoring, improved fuel efficiency, and longer tire life. What This Means for the Industry With global truck platforms like PACCAR adopting TPMS as standard, more commercial vehicles will roll off the assembly line pre-equipped. This shift brings new demands: ??Technicians & Repair Shops?– Will need TPMS trigger tools to verify sensors and perform relearns. ??Aftermarket Growth?– The rise of programmable TPMS sensors will create new opportunities for service providers. ??Fleet & Maintenance Support?– As fleets standardize TPMS, tool compatibility with multiple sensor brands will be crucial. Over the next?12-18 months, expect to see more new trucks on the road with TPMS built-in.
