Critiquing (through drawing) familiar architectural diagrams reveals a skewed perception of the human form, favouring a particular ideal. Contrasting these ideals of DaVinci’s Vitruvian Man and Corbusier’s Modular with the Black female body uncovers significant differences in proportions and curves. Overlaying these bodies provokes a reinterpretation of architectural design, celebrating diversity and inclusivity. There’s no singular ‘Black body,’ just as there is no one ideal, highlighting the need for adaptable spaces accommodating various forms. This analysis fuels our mission to reshape retail and hospitality architecture through adaptive reuse, creating environments that embrace the richness of human diversity. Let’s commit to creating spaces, brands, and businesses that embrace the deltas (changes in) the human experience.
