Training Information:?The use of Structured Professional Judgement violence risk assessment tools in encouraged by best practice guidelines to provide more objective and evidence-based assessment of the level of risk posed by persons of concern. However, many practitioners do not use any tool to aid in their assessments, while some use tools that are not appropriate for their current case, and other just use the tool inappropriately. All of these actions weaken the credibility and defensibility of their violence assessments; while also weakening the insights they can bring to any response or intervention efforts to increase the success of their violence mitigation efforts. In this session, Dr. Cawood will explore these issues, information on important concepts that need to be understood when deciding on which tools to use and how to understand their strengths and weaknesses for a particular case, and provide practical insights into how practitioners can begin to incorporate SPJ tools and related processes into their assessments and case management practices.
Speaker:?James S. Cawood, Ph.D., CPP, CTM?
