Perhaps the same combination of technical breakthroughs, capable investors, and government funding can fuel a similar path to diagnosis and treatment of our planet's illness. ?? Nuclear is distinct in its ability to deliver abundant, clean, and safer-than-ever-before power around the clock. We will certainly need a lot more it, soon, if we are to avoid climate catastrophe and fuel our increasingly energy-hungry, modernizing societies. Yet, the nuclear paradigm is broken. It is the only energy technology known to mankind that has gotten more expensive as we’ve produced more of it. And these costs have little to do with the reactors themselves, which comprise <10% the cost of a typical power plant. The other >90% is balance of plant, labor, construction overhead, and huge interest sums that accrue over decade long build outs. And to make it worse, there is no learning curve on these highly bespoke one-off projects. Construction cost and time overruns are a fixture of the industry and are behind nearly every nuclear project cancellation. ? Blue Energy solves these challenges by centralizing manufacturing of nuclear plants in non-nuclear shipyards and deploying ready-to-scale, proven reactor technologies. In doing so, they reduce construction times from 10+ years to <2 years and makes nuclear the cheapest baseload energy source, even compared to fossil fuels. I was first captivated by this powerhouse team over a year ago and am ecstatic to now co-lead their Series A financing alongside our friends at Engine Ventures, with participation from Angular Ventures, Tamarack Global, Propeller, Starlight Ventures, and Nucleation Capital.
