Mrs. Rud's Psychology classes at Skyline High School welcomed Navy combat veteran Nicole Pogue, Army combat veteran Dave Campbell, and Dave's service dog Caleb as guest speakers through the Veterans Inspiring Patriotism program today. Nicole and Dave shared about their journeys to recovery from PTSD and depression, and how they now work to serve their fellow veterans to assist them in their recoveries. Nicole shared that "Whatever you are going through, someone else is too. We need each other. When you show up and present yourself authentically, then you find your tribe." You can learn more about the services they offer to help vets in the East Valley through the Azura Veterans Coalition at azuracares.org, or visit their Center in downtown Mesa.

???? Honoring Our Heroes ???? Today, we honor the brave men and women who have served in our nation’s armed forces. Their courage and sacrifice protect the freedoms we hold dear. Veteran stories are not just a testament to their bravery—they are vital lessons for civic education. By sharing their experiences, veterans help us understand the true meaning of service, patriotism, and the responsibilities of citizenship. These stories bridge our past with our present, reminding future generations of the sacrifices made to defend our democracy. To all veterans—thank you for your service and for continuing to teach us the values that strengthen our nation. #VeteransDay #ThankYouForYourService #CivicEducation #HonorAndRemember #GratefulNation #HeroesAmongUs #FreedomIsNotFree

Last week, we teamed up with the Bill of Rights Institute to host a training for Chandler Unified School District government teachers! ?? We dove into federalism, the Arizona government, and using primary sources to bring history to life in the classroom. Dr. Sean Beienburg led two faculty sessions for teachers. It is important for teachers to continue to hone their content knowledge, and we are happy to create opportunities to do that! #TeacherTraining #CivicsEducation #ArizonaCivics
