ICYMI: AstroAccess Ambassadors Eric Ingram and Cady Coleman were recently invited to speak with several news stations about the #Crew9 return to Earth! They celebrated the safe return of all four astronauts while also shedding light on Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams’ extended mission aboard the ISS. Their expertise and passion for space exploration continue to inspire important conversations about the future of human spaceflight. At AstroAccess, we’re always eager to engage in discussions about the latest happenings in space. What recent space exploration milestones have caught your attention? #GalacticAccessibility

Outer space is not just humanity’s future: it's a call to rethink life on Earth today.
关于我们
Outer space is not just the final frontier: it's a call to rethink life on Earth. In zero gravity, what is standing up? What is lying down? What does it mean to be unable to walk if no one there is walking? How does that shift our understanding of disability? AstroAccess has launched a diverse group of disabled scientists, veterans, students, athletes, and artists on a historic ZERO-G parabolic flight, as the first step in a progression toward flying a diverse range of people to space. They carried out lunar gravity, Martian gravity, and zero gravity observations and experiments investigating how the physical environment aboard space vessels should be modified so that all astronauts and explorers, regardless of disability on Earth, can live, work, and thrive in space. The first mission flew on ZERO-G in the second half of 2021, with the ultimate goal of flying one or more team members to space in the coming years. The project has secured the majority of its funding from the Whitesides Foundation and is now looking to engage with relevant partner organizations.

We're proud of Ambassador Kyle J. Horn for making waves with his research in qualifying insulin pumps for space use. We look forward to continuing to test the pumps with him in state-of-the-art analog environments! #GalacticAccessibility
Insulin delivery pumps for human spaceflight: In a new paper published in the journal Wilderness & Environmental Medicine, PhD student Kyle J. Horn (Human Systems Lab) shares research into qualifying insulin pumps for space use, a critical step toward supporting astronauts with, or who may develop, endocrine disorders on long-duration missions. In spring 2024, he tested the technology aboard a zero-gravity flight as part of the MIT Space Exploration Initiative’s annual research campaign. “Once we know the tech safe to use in space, astronauts with various medical backgrounds will have access to the final frontier of human exploration. It’s a win-win for everyone,” he says. Learn more: https://ow.ly/7AHQ50V33bj

Celebrating a Milestone: The 2-Year Anniversary of AA2 Flight As the holiday season unfolds, we're taking a moment to reflect on AstroAccess' AA2 flight, which marked its 2-year anniversary yesterday. This international zero-gravity research flight brought together 14 incredible disabled Ambassadors from 5 countries, paving the way for a more accessible future in space exploration. On December 15, 2022, aboard Zero-G aircraft in Houston, TX, the crew conducted innovative scientific demonstrations to advance universal design for space environments. Key highlights include: 1. The blind crew tested tactile graphics for cabin walls to improve spatial orientation. 2. The blind and mobility crews showcased independent entry into a launch seat and secure fastening of a five-point harness. 3. The hard-of-hearing and blind crews collaborated with Sony and SonicCloud to demonstrate enhanced speech systems for zero-gravity communication. 4. The Deaf crew continued their linguistic studies on the intelligibility of ASL in zero-gravity. 5. And much more! As we celebrate this anniversary, we also look ahead to the future of accessibility in space. Wishing you and your loved ones a joyful holiday season and a bright new year—on Earth or beyond. Happy Holidays from the AstroAccess family!

So proud to be part of the NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration ( NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory) Clipper Probe expedition launching to Jupiter's moon Europa on Monday, Oct 14 no earlier than 12:06pm EST! Arthur Salvetti and I, along with the team at NASA, designed the mathematically-transformed representation of the word "Water" in American Sign Language that sits in the center of the probe's Tantalum plate, which also contains waveforms of the word water in 104 languages! The probe is not expected to arrive until 2030! But the idea of extending accessibility to the rest of the Solar System will endure far beyond that! A huge thank you to Sheri Wells-Jensen, Preston Dyches, Laura Buszard-Welcher, and everyone else at NASA who invited us to participate and provided amazing support!
