Representatives Tara Thorne and Jack Shepard, shared updates about Astor’s programs and connected with influential leaders from across the Hudson Valley. We were also joined by our Board President, Dr. Therese Lack, making the morning even more special! Astor Services is a community based, non-profit organization that provides children's mental health services, child welfare services, and early childhood development programs. Astor serves children and families in New York State's Mid-Hudson Valley region and the Bronx. Through a wide variety of premier quality education and mental health services, Astor provides support for pre-schoolers, children with behavioral and emotional health problems, children at risk of placement in foster care, and families that need assistance in developing the skills necessary to raise their children in an environment filled with increasing challenges. Astor currently serves thousands of children each year through its prevention, early childhood, special education, community behavioral health and residential treatment programs. No one will be denied access to services due to their inability to pay. A discounted/sliding fee schedule is available based on family size and income.

On Wednesday, members of Astor Services gathered in the Highbridge section of the Bronx for a Thanksgiving giveaway. We distributed 360 turkeys and all the fixings to families in need, ensuring they can celebrate the holiday with joy. This incredible effort was made possible through our partnership with Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of New York and the generous support of: Fordham University, The New York Public Library, BestCare (who donated all the turkeys!) At Astor, we believe in the power of community and collaboration. Joy Bessinger, Astor Services’ Head Start Health & Nutrition Coordinator, volunteered with the Registered Nurse Response Network (RNRN) to travel to Asheville, NC to assist victims of Hurricane Helene.??RNRN, in partnership with?International Medical Corps, deployed two teams of nurse volunteers to support the hurricane recovery. Joy was one of fourteen nurses who volunteered on the Asheville deployment and cared for residents who had arrived at shelters and clinics in the immediate aftermath of the unprecedented storm.?Thank you, Joy, for all that you do! Cardinal Timothy Dolan held a special Mass on World Day of the Poor at?St. Patrick’s Cathedral yesterday. He blessed the food that will be distributed by Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of New York to the city's most vulnerable populations and encouraged all in attendance to give back to those in need.
