Announcing our Retirement Planning For Midwives Webinar ?? Presented by Leslie Cornwell, CNM and Business and Financial Consultant. This is the first in our Sustainable Midwifery Series, created as a meaningful offering to the caregivers who are bringing about such meaningful change in perinatal health. Why is this so important? Midwives are entrepreneurs and business owners who are often working without any business or financial education. These skills are not included in the average midwifery school curriculum. The demands of being on call add financial strain and put pressure on health and relationships. Midwives deserve financial stability that affords rest, time with loved ones and allows us relief from worries about the future AND communities deserve midwives who can thrive in the present. When you've been heads down for so long, it can be hard to take a step back and really understand how far you have come and how much impact you've had already - we try and capture that in this short film! Have a watch.
Incredibly exciting news from Aster: we’ve opened up Aster from the hand-selected group of private beta clinics from across the U.S. to being generally available to more clinics. For the past year we’ve been working hard to make women’s health easier to access and manage. Starting this company last Summer, I could not have told you how many patients' lives we would touch, practices we would support and babies we would have helped deliver into the world - all with our platform. I'm amazed at how open, forward-thinking and? collaborative everyone in this community has been, which has only fast-tracked our growth and development. Today, we'd like to share a new chapter in Aster's journey, one that takes us out of Private Beta with the several dozen practices we've been live with since the start of the year to today, Monday 16th September - where we begin to work with a wide range of practices and their patients. We're doing this as we've spent the last 9 months (yes, a full gestational period) building table stakes, core functionality that has enabled us to reach feature parity with the array of systems and tools our customers use today. We feel confident that we've built something magical and although we have along way to go we want to invite more people into this world, to help us do it. You can really put the work into perspective when reading the customer quote below:? “I had a birth this weekend and charted with Aster. It was super easy to navigate and I was really pleased with it while using it […] the easy click of the buttons for everything was so helpful especially because the baby arrived before my assistant so I was able to quickly click the buttons and manage the birth!” We’d love to share the story of Aster, to today - where there’s something truly valuable that you can engage with. So as the end of the film below states; if you’re a midwife, a doula, an OB/GYN, a WHNP or anyone who cares for women and families, we invite you to check out Aster and learn more. ?? Required reading for anyone invested in improving perinatal outcomes in the US. American College of Nurse-Midwives' Midwifery Workforce Study. https://lnkd.in/g8qWty4d Here are our takeaways: Midwifery is linked to positive outcomes, but access to midwives is limited in the United States. The US has only 4 midwives per 1,000 live births. To meet the WHO goal of 6 per 1,000, the US needs 22,000 midwives but currently has only 14,000, leaving a gap of 8,200. Even at the WHO target, the US would have fewer midwives than other high-income countries with better outcomes. The WHO states that midwives could provide 90% of sexual and reproductive care in the US Certified Nurse-Midwives and Certified Midwives are master’s or doctorally prepared health workers who provide care during pregnancy, childbirth, the postpartum period, sexual and reproductive healthcare, gynecologic healthcare, and family planning services. There are multiple strategies that will help improve the resilience of midwifery services. Notably, strengthening the presence of freestanding birth centers provides perinatal healthcare system resilience by providing an alternative to using hospital services for low-risk birth. States that have these three policies act as facilitators of midwifery practice: 1. Licensing midwives for full independent practice, including prescribing all essential medications? 2. Reimbursing midwives the full Medicaid physician fee for services? 3. Ensuring midwives can admit their clients to the hospital independently We need more midwives which means more support for midwives, which is what we are all about! We don’t know who needs to hear this but there are safe and effective ways to treat mood and anxiety disorders during pregnancy! It often surprises people to hear that perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (PMADS) are among the most prevalent, and highly treatable, pregnancy complications. Perhaps they are not seen as complications but rather just part of the experience or maybe because despite affecting 1 in 5 birthing people they are often underdiagnosed. In our latest edition of the Aster blog our advisor Mikaela Kelly Morgan MD/MPH talks PMADS, pregnancy safe medications and resources for support. If you work with or employ people who can get pregnant, it is in your interest to be educated about this. Birthing people deserve to feel at their best and be supported when they don’t. Check out the blog post and share with your friends! https://lnkd.in/giW-YWd7

There are two topics we will never get tired of discussing with others who ask about Aster. 1. Why did you start this company? 2. Who are the people you serve and how does Aster help them? During Black Maternal Health Week, our Co-Founder Lailah Kara-Newton, MD had the pleasure of sitting down with Danilae Smith host of The Well Report Podcast. This is such a fun and lighthearted episode, delving into topics of maternal health, advocacy in healthcare and then overall wellness as a founder and working parent. Would check it out! ??
